Just finished mine, thank you for the video! I didnt bother with taking the battery out but I probably should have. Spent some time fishing for a dropped bolt!
Showing clearly how all the connectors work and disconnect makes this video next level. Fantastic!
Not even done watching but thank you for the thorough instructions, explaining in detail, etc. I knew this was my 2018 malibu’s issue, but have been stressing changing this out myself… glad i can rest assured and still save labor $$$

your not even lying, i got to look why it cost so much to repair, just research and after multiple videos this one being the best. i can do this. I just need the muscle to help me lol
So happy i figured this out. Genuinely thought it was a sensor or at worst the booster. Glad its an easy fix. Crazy that there hasnt been anything from Chevy about this. Seems like its enough cars to warrant atleast a bulletin
Im a jeep guy so not too familiar with chevy but my stepdaughters malibu has this same issue. By far the best, easiest video to follow for replacing this part. Really appreciate you taking the time to do the extra work removing the battery to show us!! Thank you!!
This video was 10% vaccume pump removal and 90% battery removal lol. Great video tho thanks.
Thanks bro you just saved me a lot of money! Changed myself and I’m no mechanic 😅
Got a 2017 malibu with 35k miles on it. Doing this job now. Couldn't figure out how to get the battery out lol. Appreciate the video. Pretty simple job.

Very good demonstration! I wish you were my mechanic.
Great video helped me understand the issue. In our case, the pump seized up and broke the cam. The car went into reduced power mode and the brakes stopped having power. Would not start after shutting it off.

This happened to mine as well. How did you go about fixing it. I believe I heard the cam break
There is a class action lawsuit on this problem that GM will not acknowledge they won't even attempt to recall this part. Then they try to charge 5k for a camshaft repair
Great presentation, thank you for the information! 🙏
Great video, thank you for the simple and easy to follow instructions! The only thing I disagree with you on is the cause of the failure. The oil screen got clogged so the part got oil starved, overheated from excess friction. That caused the vacuum rotor to shatter. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. Belter that $60 part fail vs destroying the camshaft end and causing a head rebuild or worse, complete engine failure. I don't foresee there being any recalls. Regular oil changes with high quality oil will reduce/prevent that screen from getting gunked up. Unless it is a design flaw causing the filter to clog, then you might see a TSB.
I just fixed mine thanks for video😊
Great video brother, thank you!
this video was very helpful appreciate it alot
Great video all info is perfect. Align the drive dogs on the cam before tightening bolts would be my only suggestion. Thanks Again, great video

I thank you for this informative video it helped me a lot but I didn’t remove the battery all I did was to loosen up the hose that black hose put it a bit to the side and keep telling myself patience patience loosen the screws by hand. Of course after loosen them with wrench

Thank you for the video I found broken pieces inside. I was able to take them out but is there anything else I should worry about of these broken pieces?
I have a p0556 on 2016 Buick encore. Close to same engine. I changed sensor and check hose everything looked good. Cel came back. Took it to mechanic they charged me to do the exact same thing. Still getting p0556 The brakes seem to work fine. No hard pedal. Any other ideas? Guess I could take the pump off just to open it up and check it? And put it back on if it's good ...
Question. Which way does the deal face? Not sure if I put the seal on right.
My vacuum pump went out last year in February and the dealership charged me almost $800 to fix it. Now the problem exist again and come to find out that it wasn't covered under any type of warranty. Now I'm looking into trying to replace it myself to save much more money.

So when taking the intake tube off there's a bolt on that braket what size socket do I use for that bolt?
One of the mounting bolts has a sleeve. Where does it go? I'm replacing my vacuum pump and it's leaking oil like crazy.
Pls help I did this myself but now the seal is broken how do I replace the seal?
But how many of them 3 bolts have the black bushing on it mine only 1 has it on and I can’t remover which hole it came out of
Great video my brake pedal is very hard. I’m trying this my self. Btw do you have the part number? GM parts is giving me a 2.0 but my car is a 1.5? I don’t want to buy and waste time. Any help is welcome?
My pump was broken at the tip so my camshaft is ba? I changed the pump and sensors and chain and timing code still there I think is camshaft now
Replaced and now I hear ticking. Any suggestions?
I hope you see this my 2014 Chevy Malibu vacuum seal is leaking brought a new pump but the new plastic ring to the camshaft is larger than the old one have purchased 2 new ones and they are the same size how can I get the right size 😢 please help 😪

I just bought a 2020 Malibu LT. How do you think it would cost for me to bring it to a mechanic to check it? I'm not experiencing any problems at the moment, but I would like to get it cleaned out if it needs it.

Mine broke the other day but oil dumped out of the side of the engine right under the pump when it happened. Thankfully it happened in town. We made it home with the hard brake pedal but all the engine oil was drained. Hopefully it’s just the pump that broke.

How did any of you guys get the broken pieces out that’s sitting in the engine without taking the cover of the engine apart?
Torque spec?
Good day boss man So quick question can you just remove it and clean it at some times
Yeah I hope this lawsuit goes through for GM All of them are doing the same thing vacuum pumps failing braking camshaft internal engine failure due to broken parts in the engine this is terrible! I just had to do the same thing on mine. Change the vacuum pump exhaust camshaft and also fished out a bunch of pieces of metal out of my oil journals luckily I did get them all. But it sucks having to do this in not even having hundred thousand miles on a car.
Any idea if I have all the symptoms you have said (I'm almost positive that's the issue) but when I put my finger on where the hose goes I can still feel suction?

Soooo this happened to my son car he has a 2018 now the car won’t turn over I’m hoping it’s a Saftey stop, but the pedal is very hard and won’t stop the car on time, there was a recall (18279) something to do with rear brakes or something but I think GM dropped the ball because no way this should happen in a 2018 car that was bought new…

Thank you for the instuction video!!! I just bought a used malibu with only 68K and has the same issue. I notice oil underneeth the pump. Kind of wish I bought another ford again or honda/toyoda. I guess these have to be replaced every 50K. WTF, I hate the chevy 2012 chevy sonic I purchased last year uunder 5K for not having an analog collant temp gauge. I will never buy anohter used car with out a temperature dash gagauge. Newer cars are having less vital features. Another missing feaure in many newer cars (NO TRANSMITION DIP STICK) to check the flud level a bolt has to be removed behind the left sterring front side tire and if there is a slow drip with the car running and level it is at the proper level. THANKS GM for making everything difficult... I got 360K out of my ford focus before needing to replace the catalic convertor again then deciding to sell it because of my millage and prior maitenace. Still non the lesss I like the design better. Includes a transmition dip stick and temp gauge... ALL CARS should have this unless its electric....

Good video ALWAYS REPLACE VACUUM PUMP SEAL. (~10$ US)....THEY ARE of Poor design and tend to LEAK
They copy a 2.0 Ecoboost or what? I'd rather that fall apart instead of messing up the cam.
U should have strainer 😂
Pathetic what GM has been doing. A measly shear pin design on the pump shaft could at least prevent a 70 dollar part from destroying an entire engine.
Put a electric pump on it. Done deal.
As prevent maintenance..replace around 80k miles....it it breaks on the inside (cam side). Its not gonna be nice and Will leave u stranded....tow bills....STRESS FACTOR... PS...GM says changing oil at 3000 miles will Help this problem.....in my opinion...just a horrible Material and horrible design...they are moving to Electronic Vacuum
