Ha snap! I am doing exactly the same. Well I think my block might actually have had it in general. If you undo one of the long bolts on the water pump on the right hand side the coolent neatly drains out of it.

I was gonna try that bolt trick, but totally forgot it. Will give it a go the next time I gotta drain the coolant. That’s too bad if your block is shot. I imagine a replacement might be a little cheaper to come by over there than here?

Thanks for this. I'm about to do the same and want to replace the cam shaft, tappets, lifters, springs and rebuild the heads themselves. This was interesting to watch. P.S.... the link to the wrenches goes 404 Not Found. I would have picked those up.

Nice job so far! I took the whole steering pump assembly off along with any brackets off the front. When you install the driver side head with ARP studs. You’ll have to instal the head with 2 studs closest to the firewall removed to clear the body. I had to do it for my head gasket on my 04 D2.

I wasn’t even that daring! I ended up setting both heads on with just the furthest front 3 or 4 studs in. Ran the rest in after. Worked great keeping the gasket lined up while I got the heads straight!

Gotta love an old pushrod motor! It really makes it simple not having to disassemble the entire timing system to get the heads off! I'm pretty sure that now that I've done it once, I could probably do it in half the time it took me here.

Mind telling us what size socket you used when she was using the big torque bar on the head bolts? Im trying a 16mm, but it seems to be slipping off like it’s the wrong size?

I hope Google Translate got this one right, but to answer your question, it took a while because this was the first time I’d ever done this particular jobless, so I wanted to make sure I got it right. After having had to go back and replace the valley pan because I didn’t seal it right the first time, I’m pretty sure it could be done a lot faster, like you said! Thanks for watching, by the way! What part of the world are you in?

Green.!!! Never use Green. You need Red, OAT type. Local Volvo truck shop should have it.

  • @MattKester

Interesting. I was under the impression that OAT type and Dexcool were the worst things you could put into it and that regular old green was the way to go.
