Replacing the Erskine Bridge gas pipeline: Full project overview | Our network | SGN

Ғылым және технология

Providing a reliable supply of gas for residents on both sides of the Clyde for decades to come.
The Erskine Bridge is not only a hugely important transport link over the River Clyde near Glasgow, but a recognisable landmark in its own right. However, being nearly 50-years-old, the pipes needed to be replaced. And that’s why we’ve been busy replacing the pipelines underneath the bridge to ensure a safe and efficient gas supply for years to come.
Working with our main contractor, J Murphy and Sons Ltd, we have replaced two 1.5km 300mm diameter pipelines previously suspended under the bridge with a new 1.9km 450mm pipeline.
Our biggest priority throughout this challenging project has been to minimise disruption to the surrounding areas, such as the Antonine Wall, the Kilpatrick railway station and most importantly, the local community.

It needs the height to allow ships to pass under. It therefore has to be long to minimise the gradient on the road.
