    After years of fighting with these antennas on my cars I finally bought a manual Hirschmann for my W126, but have a new mast sitting in my tool box now for years and i will now try on my W124, thanks for the info.

    Need to replace the mast on my s124 estate. I believe I have the same antenna but haven't taken it out yet. Thanks for showing the inner workings of the motor and related parts. Thanks for posting!

    Hi Ralph! Looks like a nice day where you are at. It's been a long time but if I remember right my motor got weak and I used to put wd40 on my antena mast and then wipe it down. That always helped for a while but then would dry out. Dry graphite probably would actually have worked better. I eventually used a pep boys special whole unit to replace the whole thing. No internet back then to find an original unit. If I remember right though I did replace the mast, with broken cable, on my Volvo. Very similar except there was a sleeve that had to go on the top and I left it off but the unit did not work right. I had actually lost that sleeve in the grass but eventually found it and put it back on and then the unit worked correctly. It is always satisfying to fix something on a car that hasn't worked for a while. Have a great weekend!

    This video is great. Exactly when I needed. I just pulled mine out and the plastic to push the mast out had snapped. The motor is not working when I push the up or down button. Only makes noises randomly. Seems like a separate problem.

  • @straybenzes

    That does seem to be a different problem. Reviving the motor is easier than trying to repair the control section.

    Hello, awesome video! Where is it possible to get a replacement Hirschmann exterior antenna grommet? The one that seals to the quarter panel. I can't seem to find any replacements and mine has crumbled

    Thanks. Here is one of reasonable quality, but this website also provides OEM grommets as well. www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/1268271598M253.htm?pn=126-827-15-98-M253&bt=Y&fs=0&SVSVSI=W126 Good luck!

    Great video, very helpful! I've finally gotten my antenna to function, but it seems like two metal pieces of the antenna mast are seized together. Is there a good way to break these free? Thanks in advance!

  • @straybenzes

    @straybenzes

    That can indeed happen. Soak the mast in Croil or something similar and pray that the pieces will loosen up without using an awful lot of force. Key is to then remove all the carbon based lube. Dust and other stuff will stick to it and literally gum it up again soon. Better choice are silicone based lubes.

    Thank you very much for all your videos. True hero. Would you please explain me what to use and how to power the antena after i took it out of the car? I can see you are using a power drill battery, am i right? I'm a real novice and would love to know what kind of wiring and power supply is needed. Thank you Sir !

    I am using an older style 12V battery from a cordless drill. All you need are two wires with alligator clips at each end. Make sure you do not let them short each other. I always connect the clips to the wire plug side first and then connect the battery. If the movement of the motor is not to the side you desire just switch the two wires at the battery and the motor will turn the other way. Give it a try!

    Do you have to remove the mast to determine if the teeth are stripped? Or is there a telltale sign?

  • @straybenzes

    @straybenzes

    Жыл бұрын

    I have found for the mast "cord" teeth to rarely be the issue. In most cases it is the control section that is the issue. Then there is the drive belt, sometime the main motor, but in most cases it is the mast itself that has all sorts of issues. You will not know for certain until you examine this closer.
