Replacing my 350z HR gallery gaskets plus dyno run

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The car was running great so i was taking it to be dyno,d but on my way there i stopped to fill up with fuel and at that point i noticed the dreaded low oil pressure. So instead to paying the big bucks repair bill i took my time and carried out the job myself. Time wise you could get it done easily in 2 days if you are decent with set of tools.

    Great video, I have watched a few of these and woah that looks complicated, I honestly don't think I would dare tackle it. Hats off to you.

    Great video! I know this video is older but I bought a Procharged Nissan 350z hr and it has low oil pressure since I’ve boughten it and I’ve put about 5k miles on it and who knows how many more since previous owners. Should I bother replacing them if the rotating assembly could be already damaged no really bad symptoms maybe lower power after a few pulls.

    Hi. I'd say try and get it inspected to check for any damage due less oil getting to the top of the engine. It's only going to get worse so you could possibly catch it and save the engine by swapping the gaskets.

    What did you use for the coolant I assume it’s something to help with not having to bleed the system

    Sorry for the late reply. I haven't had notifications of comments. Just a standard coolant suitable for these engines. Just need to jack the front of the car up. I have a funnel that connects to the radiator that allows coolant to flow back in when an air bubble pops up.

    Nice video. How did you stop the engine from rotating when reinstalling the harmonic balancer?

    put your mark on the balancer, and the bolt, and then just get an impact gun and hammer it until your mark is 90 degrees forwards. easiest way to do it.

    Is there a torque spec for the oil gallery covers and a specific tightening sequence/order?

    going to attempt this myself, was the timing messed up after you finished? that's all im worried about, also any tips on the crank pully bolt?

  • @ImagineBuildRace

    @ImagineBuildRace

    I marked all the timing chain and cogs incase it slipped which it did. My mechanic friend gave me a hand realising it as it's a two man job to hold tension and move the chain. After that it was fine. The crank bolt was tough. Had the pulley strapped down and just used extension bars untill it came loose

    @@ImagineBuildRace what if i set the engine to top dead center?, would it still slip? any other way to avoid it slipping or any way to figure out how to set the timing back? or with the marking you just moved it back and it was fine

  • @ImagineBuildRace

    @ImagineBuildRace

    @@OhToeKnee I was keeping tension on the chain using zip ties that another guy had said to use. It would have worked fine if I had tightened them a bit more whilst removing one of the tension guides. As long as you mark where each cog is realative to the chain then it can be repositioned. I'm not a mechanic but like to learn and do things myself. If you have a mechanic friend get him to lend a hand. Not a difficult job but two minds are better than one 😊

    @@ImagineBuildRace one more question and probably the last, how did you get that one difficult phillips screw from the gasket off? is there a certain screw driver you purchased? let me know thank you, currently stuck on this part.

  • @ImagineBuildRace

    @ImagineBuildRace

    @@OhToeKnee not a problem. From memory they where Philips PH2. Which is a pretty standard size. I'd buy a new decent quality screw driver if you don't have one. Older screw drivers wear out and could cause them to slip off the screws easily.

    How did you get the timing back on track?

  • @ImagineBuildRace

    @ImagineBuildRace

    I had marked where the chain sat on each cog. When it slipped I could see how many teeth it had moved. It was a two man job to hold the chain whils the other person used a spanner to turn the cog back a few turns.

    What symptoms did you have with the bad gallery gasket?

  • @ImagineBuildRace

    @ImagineBuildRace

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi. No symptoms. It happened quickly and I noticed the oil pressure gauge was pretty low just after filling up the car with fuel. I think if you run the car with low oil pressure then the oil dosnt make it to the top of the engine which could cause some damage. I was only my way to get the car tuned so just happened to be keeping an eye on the gauge on my journey to the tuners when it dropped suddenly.

    @@ImagineBuildRace thanks for the reply, I wish my G sedan had the oil gauge. I was having a drop in rpms from 600 down to 400/450 every so often. Cleaned MAF, replaced plugs and coils, valve cover gasket replacement as well. No codes or anything like that so I’m assuming it’s the gaskets dropping the idle rpms.

    Home boy has a lift but no impact and compressor smh. Also why did u take your whole front end off? You know you don’t even need to remove the radiator just accessories, belt, and belt tensioner(s) to get the front timing cover off. U did too much for no reason. 🤦‍♂️

    Haha. I do have a compressor and air and battery impact tools. I've stripped loads of 350zs so taking the front end off takes me an hour and gives me so much more room to tackle a job I hadn't tried before.
