    Great work John - good to see you doing an ambitious job in a methodical way. It's always a good precaution to check that the new centre plate slides freely on the gearbox input shaft splines prior to fitting. Volvo used to produce a special lubricant for the splines.

    Great video, I just have one mention, the gearbox is MMT6 and the recommended oil is Castrol Syntrans FE 75W, or any oil that has WSS-M2C200-D2 standard, such as Ravenol MTF3 75W.

    David Smith, Thanks for the comment. After purchasing this car new I always suspected there was something not quite right with the drive train when pulling away from standstill, but could not be certain where the problem was, then after 98000 miles the dual mass flywheel was obviously starting to show problems. The car drives perfectly now after fitting the new flywheel & clutch, with no sign of the original suspect problem :)

    Kishmick, thanks for the comment, Yes it will be interesting to see how the single solid flywheel performs, I was in two minds with which type to use when replacing mine, I chose the dual mass type as I believe they have now improved them ?

    Excellent videos thank you for putting the together very informative. Have to ask the c30 with the same engine is it the exact same process with the 6 speed box removing subframe / near side engine mount?. Do you also have to loosen the offside engine mounts to allow the engine to tilt down ? Many thanks 🙏

  • @johnbower

    @johnbower

    Fairly sure the process is the same with the C30, no need to to loosen offside engine mount, just lower gearbox end of engine until crankshaft pulley touches bodywork. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi thanks again for a great video. Nice job. I'm replacing my son's 2006 V50 clutch. I don't have the alignment tool kit that you have. Just the plastic center pin. Do I really need that kit to apply pressure on the clutch before tightening the screws? Thanks Hugo

  • @johnbower

    @johnbower

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Hugo, the plastic center pin you have should be ok to centralise the clutch plate, BUT if you are fitting a "self adjusting" type clutch (as the original one) it is very important to get even pressure as the clutch assembly gets clamped to the flywheel, all edges of the clutch assembly must move towards the flywheel at the same rate when applying clamping pressure, otherwise the self adjusting mechanism within the clutch assembly can get dislodged causing uneven wear problems and reducing clutch life.

    Hi John bit late to the party but better late than never, I see you did a lot of pre work before you even started the job even down to the blocks on the axel stands, very organised indeed, so the question is how long did it take to do the full job minus breaks service and suspension arms.

  • @johnbower

    @johnbower

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi breadring, It probably took a whole day to strip down and replace the flywheel / clutch/ crankshaft seal/etc. Note! I like to make sure everything is properly cleaned before being re-assembled, especially all metal faces that get bolted together right down to the bolts themselves, this scraping and cleaning is probably the most time consuming task.

    Hello Mr John, congratulations on the video. My c70 is going through that service next week but I have a doubt. Should we also change the master cilinder? Are there any new shaft seals to replace? Thank you very much for your possible help!

  • @johnbower

    @johnbower

    When removing the bell housing on any car that has the clutch "slave" cylinder inside it, it's always best to renew the "slave" cylinder while you have the bell housing off even if it appears to be o k at the time. As for the "master" cylinder which is mounted on the bulkhead you only need to change that if it has a fault.

    @@johnbower thank you very very much for your fast reply. I've ordered the new clutch with flywheel and slave cylinder. Also a new starter and new plugs. The engine is also doing some small amount of white smoke even when it's already in the ideal working temperature, should I image that the turbo will cry for a replacement in the near future? Any other check suggestion as the gearbox will be out? Thank you once again good man!

  • @johnbower

    @@rodolfosilva4504, While the flywheel is off it's a good idea to change the oil seal fitted around the crankshaft, these seals can leak especially after high mileage, it may not be leaking now, but if it does start leaking you will have to strip everything down again. In my video I show how I changed the crankshaft seal, take your time and clean away all traces of oil before fitting the new one.
