Replace AC Schrader Valve

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Vehicle AC isn't working? Often, when the air conditioner in your car isn't working, a schrader valve is leaking or loose. I'll show you how to replace a schrader valve stem on a vehicle air conditioner system. Over time, the O rings on schrader valves get old and brittle and allow the refrigerant to pass through the schrader valve, service port and service port cap, so the AC system loses refrigerant. As a result, the air conditioner won't blow cold or won't work at all.

Wow! I never would have thought of modifying a tire repair tool for this. Great idea!!!

Good morning, Richard. It worked like a charm and got the job done. We're frugal gals and try to use what we have rather than buy yet another tool. We're running out of space to store all of our tools and DIY stuff. :)

I have to admit, I'm envious of your workshop. Lucky guy! We feel your pain, Richard. I have 2 bedrooms filled with DIY stuff because the garage is filled up. My living room is now housing the materials for my upcoming siding job--Hardie plank, plywood, insulation, trim and so on. Sister's house (right next door) is the same way. Plus, she built 3 sheds, and those are packed too. It's a crazy DIY life! We likely need to seek professional help related to our addiction to DIY stuff. :)

@@frugaldiy1 lol.......I hate to admit it but my shop is full also (with other peoples stuff) but that is changing this year as everyone has been given 60 days to get their stuff or I'm taking it to the dump. BTW, Hardie plank is a great product but I have two suggestions, paint all sides with a good quality primer including the edges then install and paint the exterior with a high quality paint. Also, Hardie plank does NOT like to be immersed in water so be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions as to how close you put it to the ground. Other than that Hardie plank lasts almost like the old asbestos shingles (I was a GC and still have those shingles on my own house with fresh paint of course) but that stuff can't be beat for longevity and paint retention without peeling. Good luck and GOD bless!!!

Thanks for sharing, I have a 2007 Corolla s , this winter I had a problem with the heater, every time I tern the heater on the AC compressor goes on! With hot air on the left side and cold on the right.what could be the problem? my mechanic said take the connector for the compressor off in winter and reconnect in summer. Which made me upset with him.

You're welcome. Re your issue, my guess is faulty climate/temperature selector panel inside the car and either a damper that is not operating correctly or some obstruction in the venting.

Dr nidaa, the damper controls whether hot air or cool/cold air flows through the vents. I'd look at that. I'm not familiar with the climate selection controls in your Corolla, but I do know that the climate control switches can become faulty. I had that happen in a 1991 Camry, so the AC would not turn on. I replaced the switch with one I got from an auto salvage yard, and it worked like a charm. I'm confident you can find and fix the problem yourself. ;)

@@frugaldiy1 yes I'm sure you are right, I remember 2 years ago I tried to install a new cd player and the the technician pulled out the middle switch without removing the middle screw and broke it. I'll check their first thanks.

Yes, you need to vacuum out the system whether you replace the high or low schrader valve because if the valves is leaking, air and moisture have been introduced into the AC system.

Of course. Happy to help. You can get a loaner vacuum from a local auto parts store. Make sure the vacuum has enough oil in it before you leave the store. If it doesn't, ask them to add some. If it helps you, here's a link to my video on how to pull a vacuum on an AC system: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lX6NxsOij9DJiso.html When you replace the schrader valve, or any part on the AC system, you should also replace the receiver/dryer because air and moisture has been introduced into the system. I disagree with having to replace the Receiver/Dryer if the Scrader valve is leaking, but there is still pressure in the system.... if there is pressure, no moisture can get into the system.

And...if there is still pressure in the system you can use a core remover tool that doesn't require an evac. These are a bit more expensive than the $6 valve tool.
