Reparations in Kansas City | Flatland in Focus

Kansas City is beginning a discussion about how it might make amends for inequities toward Black residents through reparations. Flatland in Focus will report on the deeply intentional work that’s already being done within the Black community, documenting the case for and possibilities around correcting racial gaps in health, wealth, homeownership, criminal justice and education.

Lets talk about why theres such fierce opposition to reparations. Opposition to reparations is about PRESERVING INEQUALITY AND PRESERVING WHITE PRIVALLEGE. Economic inequality is used as a tool to ensure segregation, to ensure black people can't afford to live outside of black areas, to ensure we can't afford certain schools, to ensure our businesses aren't competitive etc. The preservation of ECONOMIC INEQUALITY is to maintain black people as a permanent UNDERCLASS or at a certain level beneath everyone else . Its to maintain the social hierarchy. Even a black person who earns 6 figures can't compete for housing, business loans or business development with someone who has had opportunity for 3 generations of wealth building.

The issue of reparations and its potential impact on different interests is a complex and multifaceted one. It is true that the pursuit of reparations may face resistance or opposition from various quarters, including those who benefit from the existing power structures and historical inequalities. White supremacy, as a system that perpetuates racial hierarchies and privileges, may indeed be a barrier to efforts aimed at rectifying historical injustices. White supremacy operates through the maintenance of systemic racism and the perpetuation of unequal power dynamics. It seeks to uphold the dominance and privilege of white individuals and suppress the political and economic empowerment of marginalized communities, including Black -Americans who descend from slavery. Reparations challenge this status quo by advocating for redress and providing resources to address historical disadvantages.

When your population is 12% and has declined to the point that the Hispanics are now the majority minority black people have lost that position. How do think you could have equal power when you are not an equal population and you don't equally contribute financially you can't be equal if your not equally contributing anything to the cause. It's like your contribution is a dime and you want a million in return... If your population was equal then it would be a different story. AA have 41 million people in America white people have 272 million Hispanics have 62 million and counting... There are more white people than all ethnic groups combined... What is unequal is that white people financially fund everything while black people benefit from everything...

What i dont understand is why the common people are not part of these meetings but always full of so called well learned people but some of us lived in those times being discussed, i would think they would want input from people who experienced some of the things they are speaking on. Always a proffessional law petson or athletes speaking for us but last i checked many of us can speak for our selves maybe you all could have the pulse of your community if you had dialogue with the average black americans

There's no way somebody who knows slave owners were giving millions of land for reparations, and knowledge of all the government handouts white people got from the government that helped build generational wealth but excluded black people would say "giving something they didn't earn'". That tells educated people like me that you lack knowledge in this area and you should go study.

Yes it will because what this country sows will be reaped, say the God that laid the foundation of the universe and gave mankind life. It's happened before in the bible's history when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and they were paid for 400 years of slavery. It will happen willingly or unwillingly for God' children. It's also written, "The wealth of the rich is laid up for the righteous." Righteously, they owe us.
