    Running a 300/2 and a 500/1 version 2. As far as sound quality, these are amazing. I'd say that jl audio brings you right to the line of point of diminishing returns on money vs SQ. Very few amps are better, dollar for dollar, watt for watt.

    So, I guess the JL amplifier has a rather firmly regulated rail voltage supply? That's pretty unusual. Personally, I've never seen that before either. Rail voltage supplies in most amp.s tend to have a pretty noticeable voltage fluctuation from idle to full load. Perhaps not with this particular JL? Did you happen to measure it to see?

    Do you get away with using the 3205 mosfets on most amps instead of going back to the exact fet #. Does it seem like a more universal fet. Hopefully you know i dont mean "all" amplifiers, and the kind of situations im talking about.

  • @barevids

    @barevids

    6 жыл бұрын

    yes most of the time, 3205 are a very versatile and high current fet and work in almost all amps using to-220 case PS fets, its a good idea to change the gate resistors to 47r with them though. I have recently started using 3077 fets in some of the bigger more expensive stuff as well which are even higher power and seem to be seriously durable, but quite a bit more pricey. So far all the amps ive seen using 3077s have NEVER had them blow, even when the output section bricks itself badly. Its usually a 4277 IC driving them, i'm currently trialing a few amps to see how well the db139/140 drives them.

  • @joshhanson6777

    @joshhanson6777

    6 жыл бұрын

    barevids thank you for the 3077 tip. I'll try those as well. I also have been using 3205's on almost all kicker, mtx, audiopipe,..... so on an so on style amplifiers. But im definitely going to give the 3077's a try. Thank you for the videos, keep up the great work!

    i have that exact same jl amp! i bought it in rough shape. the previous owner mix matched subs and ended up frying the 12 volt inputs =/ it melted. well. i ended up getting that all cleaned up. but now when the bass hits the amp draws like triple the amount of power that i would expect! have a decent size alt (130 or so amp) and it still drops me to like 10 volts. o.o wondering if you happen to know why? id like to find someone to fix it but most just tell me that jl is hard to work wiith cuz they wont give you a schematic to use.

    I've T whenever I repair a amplifier that is blown I'll always replace the capacitors especially on older amplifiers. I collect all the 1998/99 Mtx Blue Thunder and Thunder with the gold label amplifiers and even if the amp was working okay I'll replace the caps anyways to be safe. Since a lot of times if you check the Esr or capacitance you will find it's out of spec even if the capacitor looks like it's okay.

    I have an amplifier that goes into protect mode as soon as the RCAs are plugged in deep enough for the ground shield to make contact. Anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? The crazy thing is that even though the amp is in protect mode, it is still producing a sound output...

  • @barevids

    @barevids

    You have DC on the rca line. That needs to be resolved immediately. Will be something to do with line level converter, head unit, etc

    Thanks for the Reply man!!! I'm a big fan of yours...So I thought it was the line-out converter I was using, so I installed an aftermarket deck and it still went into protect with RCAs connected. So I plugged in a different amp and it works just fine! So I'm thinking there's a break between the RCA shield and the circuitry...or perhaps a short? Am I on the right track? This is just a Volfenhag ZX-8400, but I am determined to get it up and running since it seems like it should be an easy fix.

  • @barevids

    @barevids

    @@MiKa-fu2wi damn that's weird, yes possibly something like that... I imagine it's going into protect cus it's detecting DC on the spk outputs. If you plug the rcas in first and then turn it on, does it still protect? Or only when it's already on and you plug them in?

  • @MiKa-fu2wi

    @MiKa-fu2wi

    @@MiKa-fu2wi yes, if it's just a bump or spike from potential difference, it will protect on the spike but play fine once in and settled.
