Repairing / Restoration Of A Very Rare Ramtex Space Invader / Blockbuster Vintage Video Game
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I am repairing and restoring a very rare ramtex Space Invader / Blockbuster (breakout) game.
The game has a number of issues, including a very badly corroded battery compartment, corroded wires, dry joints and tiny tiny broken led wires that are bonded directly to the led chip die.
The wires are so small that it makes my 0.4mm soldering iron tip look like a huge crowbar!
Can I solder them back on??? Let's find out!

Great fix! Very similar in design to the Kevin Keegan game so maybe it is very late 70s. I thought you were going to use silver paint to re bond the wires but an extremely steady hand did the job with solder, very impressive 👍

Thank you very much Vince. Really appriciate your comment. I've been repairing stuff for decades, but It was after watching some of your videos for a while that actually inspired me to do something with my channel. (It was actually your Milwaukee Radio repair). I thought it would make a good addition to my tool collection and thought I'd buy a broken one... then I thought ... oh I could do a video on repairing it... If you have any tips or advice on growing my channel it would be extremely helpful!

@@BuyitFixit I can tell you have been at it a good while, you have a lot of knowledge! I suppose the only advice I would have is to stick at it and the views will follow. Pick popular items like the Milwaukee stuff and hopefully your videos will be found by people in the trades who are having the same faults and want to attempt the repair themselves 👍👍👍👍 I will be sure to catch up on your other videos when time allows. Good luck on your new venture.

I follow both of you, and I love your content. I always say, there's nothing I can't fix, and sometimes I'm right. I'll rather spend days fault-finding, than go buy something new, so these channels are Gold to me.
"display board" now that's being very generous 😂

I had one of these and never saw another one. Richer kids had nintendo game and watches with LCD graphics, but this was actually more addictive and the blockbuster game was awesome.

Thank you. Much appreciated.
Bloody Nora I forgot to breathe on this one ! Would have been great to get the code out of it (if possible) and reproduce a new board with SMD LEDs. I would enjoy making a PCB for that ! Awesome skill.....cheers.

Very nice repair vid. I'd never seen such type of tabletop. I found your channel because you leave a comment on a response from me on another try to fix channel. Glad you did, like wat your doing and learn for myself. Thump up.

Yes, it's pretty crazy how small some things actually are, but looking at it on the screen it looks easy. I was a bit stressed during that bit 😂😂😂
I remember those games when I was a kid. I thought they were the best thing ever with the graphics and all. Now, everything has changed and looking at something like that, you can see how far technology has come. awesome fix and score on a classic game.

@@BuyitFixit Oh, I forgot to add that this little game was copyrighted in 1980.
Great fix, very skillful, and very well presented. Very happy to subscribe, looking forward to your other vids 👍

If you look up the data on the PIC ic it says circa 1981 so id guess its around 1982 -1984 age wise. You missed your vocation as a surgeon impressive steady hand excellent vid..

There should be a date code on the Pic chip will maybe give you some idea of date.

It was made in the 1980s.
Anything on intercom status ? I accidently found a great corrosion remover, Ketchup than clean it with IPA,

Hi Mate, I've not had a chance to get back onto the intercom again. It's a quite time consuming job re-building those pads. I'll try to get back onto it this week.
8001 ... is that January 1980?

Could well be. I never thought of that 👍
The rarity of the item seems to have translated into less interest in watching the video. I’d imagine that plenty of your views come from people trying to fix something in particular, something that a lot of people probably have. I enjoy your process more than what it is that you’re working on. I repair much own electronics too and sometimes I see that you go into directions that I wouldn’t have thought of. That’s what makes your content a valuable learning experience for me.

Thanks 👍 I've came to the conclusion that the KZread is a bit weird. For instance I repaired a firefox F7, about the same time as another channel. His had a crack in the PCB and mine I had a blown transistor which I had to replace. His video had 600k views almost, yet mine has about 300 🤷♂️
That is one crusty game. 👾😃
