In these videos I attempt to repair various items. Can I fix them?
I've been interested in electronics and computers since I was a child, and that was quite some time ago! (although some may argue that I still act like a child at times!). When I was a kid I used to take things apart to see how they worked, and occasionally could manage to put them back together!
My career started repairing amusement machines and video games back in the 80's - 2000's as I've always liked computer games and electronics.
I've also written computer software, and built and designed various circuits over the years, like making things with Arduino type boards and reverse engineering hardware and software.

That was a really hard one with the amount of time you must have spent on it. I think you can call it fixed as you did get it to work, thanks for doing videos as there very interesting.
Wow, that's perseverance! Well done. I probably would have given up half way lol.
Nice video as always, thanks! More of a workaround than a FIX - but it's possibly a FIX doomed to fail by design! I wonder what the manufacturer would say about a new power supply for this thing,
Nice one! I'll tinker with electronics but this is way outside my skill set. BTW: there is a hotel called Pynorich Villa in... Cameroon! Could this have made it all the way over to you from there?
I noticed there was also a very dry joint to the right of D10 +ve contact with burn marks around the wire causing by intermittent contact. This would not have helped smooth working of the supply. Well done on the alternate supply!
Great video mate! Do you have a make or link for the pcp pump, and did it come with the exact adapter?
Awesome repair. I was excited when you switched it on and it all came to life. I know that rush of dopamine when you get a successful fix! :)
I'd say an alternate resolution.
Probably picked the worst time to get starlink with whole UK wide openreach FTTP (compleat replacement of copper network)
Before I got Starlink I checked on the Openreach site to see when they are doing it to our properties as our neighbours were having issues too. They have no plans to do it up to our properties as we are up in the hills. There is fibre in the village 2 miles away, but we are too far away to get it.
50:50 "Just to upload a 20 minute KZread video takes 8 hours" _8 HOURS!!!_ I was expecting you to say something like 1 or 2 hours. How do you even get anything done online. Thats is insanely slow.
Yes it was when I very first started doing YT repair videos. I was on ADSL and because we are 4 miles from the nearest exchange, I was getting about 4MB download and 0.5 MB upload.
It's a fix in my books !! so are you saying that chip was just a power supply please ? if so then that's nuts lol ! a programmable PSU ? Well you have a spare now. Blimey that's fast compared to my measly 40 MBps great fix even if I don't know how it works .....cheers !!
Thanks Andymouse, and yes that PSU chip is programmable, and pretty much a microcontroller with a digital core it seems!
Why don't you use universal power module, to fix it's original power supply?
I'm not sure what you mean, I'd be grateful if you could explain 👍
Always look forward to these reviews but the retro’s are getting a bit boring now
47:37 No chance, fk that! You'd need a PHD in advanced mathematics to understand that! What a ridiculously over complicated power supply. All just to output 12V and 48V.
Yes, I thought the same 😂😂well above my pay grade 😂👍
Shame they werent such a pain to take apart or i reckon you would have dumped the data from your working starlink chip onto anew bought 1, great igenuity to get around the problems.
Thanks 👍I'm not sure if it's possible to read the chip from a working one even for two reasons. 1) I don't have the software to read the chip and it doesn't seem readily available. 2) "The HR1211 can protect the MTP data from accidental reading and rewriting with a password. Once a non-zero, 16-bit password is written to the password register (address 01h), the MTP enters read-write protection. No data can be read or written until the user inputs the correct password into the specific unlock register (address 7Dh). This unlocks the read-write protection status". That's what it says in the data sheet 😢
@@BuyitFixit Such a shame just thought that because ive seen you dumping data with a chip programmer before on other devices , they made it damn difficult but fair play you did the job anyway.
Definitely a fix in my book. If getting a subwoofer with a blown switching power supply primary winding, working with four (ahem) cheap AliExpress power supplies is good enough for me I'm not going to criticise this!
Yes, sometimes if you can't get parts you have to resort to your own wits and ingenuity!
This Starlink router comes from my residence at Pinorich Villa, Buea, Cameroon. It stopped working after a power surge in the area. I sold it on eBay due to a power fault. The power light was not coming on, so I contacted Starlink; they sent me a replacement straight away at no additional cost. The original cost of this router was £150. I really enjoy watching this, at 48 mins I though you reached the end of road and then boom you came back with this massive power supply from ali express... that was very entertaining. I will start following you. the ssid was effectively pinorichVilla
I would say it is a fix because you do get internet from your Sparklink fuse destroyer. And you love to live dangerous, using your own disk to test it. Remember if you blow that one you can't order a new one over the internet.😅
Thanks 👍Yes that was my concern, although I could have always used the internet at the village hall or at a neighbours if I had to 😂😂😂
Looks quite difficult device to repair with the glass panel and because of the special chip, needs entire new power supply board, or maybe used board from another unit would work. Quite spectacular fuse blow with sparks :D Couple of years ago my old fiber optic broadband modem failed somehow that it couldn't get the internet connection done anymore, it succeeded upto DSL light, and then just tried forever the final internet connection. Got a known good test modem from my isp to check if that worked, and yes it did, so this way it was verified that my modem was at fault. In the past, they had some issues at the mechanical room of this building, so that's why I was not sure what's wrong this time. New modem fixed the issue, but then after 1,5 years, they closed the fiber optic service here completely after all, and had to buy yet another modem to get internet connection via cable tv network.
Yes it definitely wasn't easy to get into, and not a device that's designed to be serviceable!
For me, you took the front glass off is a success on its own, the rest is bonus, good work, repair indeed.
Very true! I did see other people try to disassemble these and they made a right mess 😂😂😂😂👍
Good Day. I thought I would bring my experience with doing odd-ball repairs. When taking plastic tabs off and they need to be drilled, A cheap set of forstner bits does a wonderful job with them especially when space is tight. Thanks for posting this repair
And that you kindly for the for the tip👍
hi kitty at 38:42
😂😂😂yes, my microphone seems to pick up every tiny noise! It would be one of our cats although I'm not sure which one!
All of that circuitry for a switch mode power supply, it's way too over engineered, no wander it failed, I have seen power supplies with a third of the circuitry of that one
Yes it's supposed to be for improved performance and better energy consumption, although at the price of a lot more complexity it seems!
Fixed enough! Job well done.
Cheers 👍
btw i tried fix a charger board and i replaced some resistors and its still dead :(
If you want send me a picture of the board at the channels name at out look dot com
@@BuyitFixit ok :)
Nice explosion over there :D
Yes definitely 😂😂😂👍
Great video as always and definitely a fix in my book! My dad is a tinkerer who lives in the DL2 wilderness and has the same Internet problems as you, so will recommend starlink to him!
Thanks 👍Yes it's been very good since I've had it, I can even play online games again. Yes not much in DL2, I'm more north and west from there and it's even more in the wilderness 😂😂😂
Ha nope it is not a fix! It is infact an upgrade as should the power supply go wrong again it is now more fixable than it was prior. Nice solution I really like your determination to get things at least to a working state and also your approach to working through the problems and if needed an out of the box way to make the most out of a bad situation. Really nice work this made for a great watch with a satisfying outcome. 👍
😂😂😂Thanks 👍
Ro(o)ter or ro(u)ter? The more I say it, the more I'm a doubter. A giver-upper you are not. The challenge of your location is considerable. The scenery can't be beat though😁
Thanks 👍Yes it can be a bit of a challenge out here especially in the winter. Ive had it a few times where we've lost power (the longest was nearly a week so good job I have backup systems in place), but yes the scenery is great! I think a ro(u)ter is something they use on wood, and a ro(o)ter is something you use to "root" signals to different places. Perhaps it's a UK regional accent thing 😂😂😂👍
If the system is working, then it is a fix. That's the object of it all. The funny thing is, the company sunk tons of money in that power supply for no reason, when a cheap AliExpress power supply works just as good on it. You could attach the supply to the back of the unit and once set up, not even realize it has an external power supply on it, and it would look factory. Awesome repair again. I'm glad you were able to save it and use it.
Thanks and very true 👍Yes it does seem very complicated, I think it's more to increase efficiency and reduce power consumption.
Resurrection rather than a fix but still impressive
Thanks Andy 👍
Hey, if you're going to repair more mains power supplies in the future, get yourself a capacitor discharger and short circuit protection with a bulb, as someone mentioned in the comments.
Yes, it's a couple of things I've been meaning to build for a while, although incandescent light bulbs seem to be harder to get hold of these days.
How intriguing... ad says it was located in London but (perhaps a co-incidence) Pinorich villa seems to be a hotel in Cameroon... Always makes me wonder why they make these power supplies so complicated, surely you don't need all that to produce a 12vDC and 48vDC supplies...
Yes a few others mentioned about the Pinorich villa. Perhaps they just named it after a place they went on holiday or something?
Good work. If I had gotten that far I'd consider it a fix!
Thanks 👍
Ok question is what type mosfet and how i can finder name of it to buy new mosfet
IRLS3034TRLPP I bought them from Digikey
Designing did their best to prevent repair. Enemy of this environment
Yes agree, not designed to be repaired!
I like the journey and fault-finding even if it's not technically an "as from factory" fix. Interesting that Pinorich Villa is accommodation in Cameroon!
Thanks 👍Yes someone else mentioned that place in Cameroon too! Perhaps it was the previous owners holiday place or something as they seem to be listing stuff from collection in London.
That's not megabytes, that's megabits.
Ah, I've never really used the speed test before. Thanks for clearing that up!
It works, it's fixed 😁
Cheers 🙂👍
This fix is chicken dinner rated for sure.
Thanks 👍
Hello! To find out the value of the resistors written with letters, for example (46C=29.4kohm EIA-96.1%), use Resistor SMD decode that you download from the Play Store. Good luck!
You need Virtual Bench Pro 4.0 Graphical User Interface (GUI) Supported by MPS Used to Configure and Monitor Multiple MPS Digital Power Solutions with an I2C Interface for the chip. Download for free and no registration from MPS. You where requesting the old version from them in the video.
I did download virtual bench pro 4.0 but it doesn't support this chip (It wasn't listed in the drop down). I later discovered on the forum that there is a different version of software for this specific chip which isn't available unless you request it. Someone else mentioned that here too: forum.monolithicpower.com/t/gui-tool-for-hr1211/3114
As soon as I got my hands on a Gigabit PoE injector and a pair of starlink to rj45 cables, I threw that junk to where it belongs. Now my starlink and WiFi router both work directly off a 48V battery. Aside from much better WiFi speeds, coverage and Ethernet connectivity, I've got ~25W base load reduction and the power inverter is finally able to switch off on zero load.
Nice 👍I don't actually use my Starlink router either (well only to power the dish) as I've got it set to bypass mode. I got the ethernet adapter as I didn't want to cut the cable, which then feeds into a GT-AC5300 Asus gaming router, which then feeds 2 other routers in various locations around our property and a couple of outdoor access points.
Any device that is a fix is a win in my books well done Sir I enjoy your fault findings keep those videos coming 😊
Thank you 👍
I think you could call that an excellent fix, Mick. How you manage to deduce the issue every time is beyond me. I wish I had your skills. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brian 👍🙂
remove powerboard, tape over power socket, test on poe only ;-)
Its now working as it should so thats a fix in my book. The journey may have been different but the end goal is the same😂
Cheers Darren 👍
FIXED IN MY BOOK!!!
Thanks 👍
i seen people change the power supply so they use it on a vehicle
Yes I did come across a couple of videos where people had converted them to use in RVs with DC to DC converters 👍
56:52 - ( -MegaBytes- Megabits ) ..........1 MegabYte (MB) = 8 Megabits (Mb) ...... 127 Mb = 15.875 MB / 14.2 Mb = 1.775 MB 😉👍
Thanks, I missed that 👍
