Had some issues with the mic on this one. Y'all may have to work the thumbs a little bit today to adjust the volume. I'm confident you have the required skill set to make it work. Thanks for watching!

Audio was just fine in my bluetooth headset.
Easiest way to get the wear ring in for the backyard mechanic is to stack the old one on top of the new one and then flip the cushion ring upside down and stack it on top of that. Alot easier then looking for a socket.
Mike next time you have a metal Sleeve to put in and you know about it. Put new metal sleeve in a Freezer while your taking the seals out. And once you have old sleeve out and your ready for new one get it out of freezer and it should just Drop right in. And all youll have too do is put snap ring back on. That way you dont have to worry about damaging new sleeve. Should work good for things like that. Just a suggestion Sir. You got it in anyhow I was just giving You another way is all. Great Job Sir. Great Video...

That’s what I did m except I curled my bucket under and took the piston out and left the hosing ( you called it a barrel) on my Link-Belt 2800 , and I took my piston cylinder to a freind at the place where I bought my machine From, there is a ton of packing seals 10 inches Long , almost 6 inches in diameter, they don’t look at big until you get them out , lol nice thanks 🙏 BigAl California.
Thanks for showing how u rebuild the cylinders. U did great.

You know the relative ease at which you rebuilt that cylinder is going to guarantee when another cylinder fails you will be on the short list to rebuild it! Nice video! I would have appreciated a little peak in DP’s garage LOL!

Very impressive work 👍 the hamster in my head nearly exploded with all you had to remember Irish Leo 🎻
Jobs like these having a picker truck would make things so much easier. Another option to take it into the shop is get a big heavy flat piece of steel and put the rod in the press and press down on the eyelet holding it down to the table on the press. When i got my bucket cylinder rebuilt on my 230 hitachi, the rod end got mushroomed slightly from the previous owner slamming the bucket open to try get material to come out of the bucket. So had to take it into a machine shop to get the end of the nut and the threads taken off.

Just remember to say "Click"
That bush you punched in the gland is my least favourite part as well even with a press they scary so easy to mess up. Another tip with your seal installer I use a circlip pliers to grab and twist because they are rounded on the shanks. Top work on keeping the oil contained
You made that look easy Mike. Great job. Dirt perfect is lucky to have you around so they can keep production running. 👍

My grandson came in while I was watching this right at 9:48 and when it separated, he pointed and said "He broke it! He broke the eggscavader!" and started crying. I had to get him a graham cracker and have him sit with me and watch that you were actually repairing it and not breaking it lol. He got all happy and flat-out told me that when he gets older, he wants to be the construction doctor instead of just making holes.
Good Job ! Enjoy watching you workout issues

Get to work! Lol
Well one of the words we used for mashing the metal around set screws was peening a form of denting with a hammer to swage the metal around the screw to stop its movement.
@ 17:17, that ring is called a "guide ring" by paperwork I've seen. Some such 'paperwork' call it a wear ring as well. "Guide rings, also known as wear rings and bearings, are used to guide the piston and rod in a hydraulic cylinder. These rings absorb radial forces that act perpendicularly to the cylinder. Also, these bearings prevent contact between sliding metal parts, thereby optimizing seal performance."
Great work captain. wish the rebuild on my backhoe went that easy. Piston bolt was red loctited on, ended up denting my piston ( luckily it was on the end and not where the pressure ring sits) trying to heat and beat it off.
soaking the rings in hot water helps them go on a lot easier.

"New oil containment plan." My first thought on using the "litter-box" was "that's a John Deere, not a Cat!" Actually, very nice job, and if I could do it your "finished way" (with all the bad words and busted knuckles edited out), I'd be very happy. Thanks for the "pre-daylight" entertainment, and nice job on the "out-ro" by the way. Take care.

You should always take a cylinder apart with the rod all the way in you lose less oil. Also if you can, generally the fittings on the side. If it has a hose that goes to it, take the hose off, hook up a heater hose to it. So whenever you're pulling out or compressing the cylinder that oil is going to come out through the heater hose and you get direct it wherever you want it to go.
A job well done.

Hey Mike, I know it’s too late now, but look into an oil pump. The kind that sucks out engine oil through the dipstick tube. I think it would work well for this type of repair. Plus it would be handy around the shop for all kinds of these jobs.

That sure is alot of seals and parts to the cylinder Mike. You're becoming the cylinder rebuild master. Also that's one well used pry bar you were using to break the big nut loose.

Lol, well used indeed
When I get stuck on snap rings or seals. I like to get real close. With a gentle but convincing voice tell it. "Your coming out even if I need to melt you." Usually works a out 70% of the time everytime. Maybe next time you have to replace seals. Lay them out in a line so it's super easy to put back. Plus you can remember the orientation of the seal. Maybe use some hydraulic fluid on the seals as you put them in. That word you were looking for "grub screw"
@CaptainKleeman
Жыл бұрын
I stack them in reverse order of how I take them out. As I put one in I pull one off the old stack so I see which one goes next. I was dipping them all in oil in this video.
Nice job, very smooooothly done ;)
😊
Are you sure your torque on that gland nut was correct. You only torqued to 2 ahs I think it’s supposed to be 1 grunt and 2 ahs. Looks like you’re the new cylinder rebuild man👍
Sure is a lot more seals in the bigger cylinders compared to my skid steer cylinder I just rebuilt.
Boy what a job 🤠 reminds me of the day I took my wife to get engaged 😂
