Hey I'm a mobile plant-fitter (mobile heavy duty mechanic) in the U.K, its so interesting seeing how you guys do it in Canada, I'm so jelly of your service trucks, over here most guys run 3.5 tonne vans nothing like what you guys get over there, so we are very limited on equipment for jobs due to the weight we can carry, if you go above 3.5t you have to by law install a tachograph so its more of a ball ache :( but love the video I could watch Cam and Carson for hours, was laughing so hard at that untimely toilet break lol really good content loving the banter and camaraderie, its very similar to the guys I work with :) 10/10

I’ve used compressed air on a cylinder I couldn’t pull apart. What I did tho, I tied up the cylinder. Then I put a regulator at the end of the air hose and started with 5 psi, and slowly increase the pressure to push the cylinder. Worked good for me

  • @BluTechEquipment

That's the right way to do it. I try keeping my explanations simple and hopefully good mechanics can figure out the safe way to do it by learning from what didn't work. In a shop or if the cylinder is held on a bench it's definitely quicker to use shop air with a regulator, just secure the rod so she doesn't turn into a cannon.

Good morning, next time, before dismantling the head cylinder, disconnect all 2 flexible hoses of the cylinder. Plus, if you disconnect all tubes and flexibles when the rod is at final strokem, open and close, you will find high pressure on the cylinder camera. Good for washing face by hyd oil ( as your video !!!! ) Mantein the rod not at maximum or minimal stroke Tks

One time as an apprenti, I had a lift cylinder off A D8R, we had it vertical pulling the rod out with a chain fall. Then my J-man’s wife comes to talk to him, so there standing to the side and Im blindly yarding the chain lifting out this rod. Welp, the fitting was pointed in their direction and when the piston got to the top, it blasted all the all all over both of them…….whoops. Lol.

When time permits we will probably reseal it fully, but this was a cheap option to buy us time. Realistically those seals are disturbed everytime that cylinder cycles anyways but I get what you're saying, things never go back the same way after being run for so long.

You didn't take the nut off and reseal the inside of the cylinder head or gland. There are packings and o-rings in there that are critical for a proper seal for the hydraulics. What you showed was half of the job. The easy half.

Lol I've also experienced air hooked up to a fairly large cylinder with 3 inch thick rod. My stepdad put air to it while I held the rod end and he held the cylinder. Both flew opposite of each other with enough force to launch the rod with me holding on a good 5 plus feet. Never gonna do that again...
