The reason you glue the oil pan gasket to the block and not that pan is actually extremely important and vital. I can’t believe you don’t know this, but the reason is pretty well known. The purpose of glueing it to the block and not that pan is so that the next guy doesn’t have it easier then you because screw that guy he has to be miserable as well.

Loved this video, especially because I had a Cummins 6BTA in a similar size boat, and did all my own maintenance. It would have been so much easier if I had been able to watch a video like this! Much more primitive the way I did it, because I am not a mechanic. Also had less room to work in. My pan had a lower portion, and I had to lift the motor to get it out. Finally removed it all from the boat, restored it and put back in like new. A great motor.
Thanks Brad ❤

I love your channel but it’s giving me nightmares from remembering doing engine work on boats at the last shop I worked at, lol.
You should try weatherstrip adhesive instead of 515. Sticks the gasket to the cover good and won’t let it shift around like 515. Never had it leak and had a fleet of those motors.

i wish my boss would have let me keep going on my work vids. states thats really cool, then says put your phone away and get to work.. so i think its awesome you guys are aloud to do this. i can really only make videos on service calls
I did a fair amount of inboard diesel work and it usually wasnt too bad. I preferred the yachts over fishing and pleasure vessels personally. For the paper gaskets 3M super 77 works pretty well im told. Spray it on the gasket and install it on the pan after 20 or 30 seconds of sitting and itll stick to the pan next time the pan comes off, i haven't done it that many times since I usually don't have it handy and I've never had to pull anything back off that I did it on. I also perfer to use a wire wheel on cummins gear covers to get the gasket maker off.
Bahahaha. I actually burst out laughing when Cam was dancing with the front cover…. Awesome. A little tip from someone who has done a shit pile of engine overhauls, for those really baked on gaskets, smack the gaskets with the ball end of a small ball peen. It seems to distort the paper and they come off way easier. Just go easy so your not peening the metal. 👍

Just a tip for anyone doing engine work, always tag out the engine if you have the engine pinned or locked! That would be a bad day if that turning tool was left in there accidentally, best to leave notes and other reminders on the engine controls and work area. I'm currently rebuilding twin 8.3L cummins in a 42 foot SeaLine, that 5.9 looks like its been cared for very well by comparison.
I used to work on boats with Cummings, MANN, CAT, and old car engines some years ago and I'm impressed with what you accomplished in this video. I've spent countless hours in old and dirty engine rooms and can't say that I miss it at all. We used to work all day long in these engine rooms barefoot while regularly having out feel submerged in smoog made of up of coolant, oil and god knows what else. Bilge and engine room water is some nasty stuff as you never know what you are putting your hands and feet into. Time and time again one of us would drop a socket, wrench or bolt into the smoog water and I'd be the one to stick my hands in it to find what we lost. Believe it or not, some aquatic life can actually survive on the muck water in the bottom of a boat. I actually had something bite me once and latch onto my toe. We could not identify it, but it looked like a cross between a baby lobster and a snail. I think nastyness that it was thriving in altered it's genetics or something. Anyways, I was mostly an assistant to the mechanics, but I watched a lot of these guys struggle with what you did. Working in tight spaces like that sucks, but you made it look easy. Good job man.

Appreciate it. Just seeing him totally ace that job on that cummings was great to see. Watching this video brought back a lot of memories of when I used to work on boats. Working on boats can be extremely lucrative. If really develop the knowledge and tool kit to work on boats, you can land jobs or contracts that pay thousands of dollars. I remember seeing invoices totaling anywhere from 60-100k USD when we finished jobs on million dollar yachts. Some of these jobs could take weeks or even months, but you always run into snags and issues with parts availability. Many times we would have to fabricate our own tools. If really can be a pain in the ass, but if you can make it work, you'll see some serious income. Thanks. @@TekamoHD
Can't believe the owner is ok with his oil pan being put back on like that 😂 🤙
The white motor would be easy to check for leaks. More OEM should do that.
