Repairing Buescher Big B Alto Saxophone from 1940's

Музыка

Buescher True Tone Aristocrat (nicknamed the Big B) was the most popular jazz horn in 1940's and was used by many great players like Sidney Bechet, Johnny Hodges and Charlie Parker. In this video I show how I repaired a Big B alto and there's also a playing sample.

I enjoyed the whole video, particularly because I just received an alto like that which needs pads and other adjustments. Love your accent, too.

Every day is a school day... I just learnt that Big B is the engraving, I thought it was the large bell on some Bueschers (Top Hat & Cane, Super 400), which also have an external strengthening ring around the bell. Interesting to see these procedures that I have read about, but not seen in practice (swaging, shellac, snap in resonators). You make it look easy, bet it took some hard work to get all the pads seated, corks/felt pads fitted and action adjusted 👍.

Nice and superprofessional job! I have a 1946 big B which is now under the same overhaling process. I am so keen to hear how it will sound after the job.

Thanks! I bought it here in Finland (link below) but I think you can easily find it anywhere. I applied it with a sponge and then washed surface with soap. webshop.sar-machine.fi/verkkokauppa/en/home/1878-sar-blitz-black-oxide.htm
