Repairing a leak on a condenser coil. This is how I repair leaks on condenser and evap coils.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I use the ASCO #3 Tip and Torch set from TruTechTools. One option is Cool Air Products, Smart Seal. Another is brazing the leak with Solderweld's 15% Silver Solder.

I’m dealing with this issue on my window ac. Found a small rock wedged though the fins and it punctured a small gash on the coil. The ac was running for a few hours before I noticed it. The reason I checked in the first place was because it wasn’t cooling. Is there anything I need to refill that leaked out of the hole? Or will it begin to cool again with no issues after the leak is plugged?

It should do ok after you repair the leak. But it’s a mechanical system, so you won’t know until it starts.

You put so much heat on that tube I was surprised it was still there.

It’s all about flame management. I repair microchannel leaks with a brazing set up whenever it’s needed. I prefer map gas though. But it’s really easy with Solderweld’s AlCop rods

So you didn't feel necessary to pre clean the copper tubing before brazing it?

Yes. Pre clean is always needed on oily coils. But if it’s dry and clean, I will sometimes not pre clean.

if there's still refrigerant in the coils, how would you clear them out?

Going to try this in the morning. I was told that the copper is extremely thin and easy to melt through. It's the top coil going through the galvanized metal so it will probably be time consuming to remove the metal. Wish I had more experience with temperature control. Any suggestions that may help me not melt the world down?

It is very delicate, so practice on a coil and use a light flame.

@@cochisecounty_travels I was successful at fixing the leak. Ordered a 00 tip from Amazon and was able to get a lot smaller flame. Thanks for the reply.

Pressure test with a small amount of R-22 and Nitrogen. The leak detector will sniff the refrigerant

Will damaged fins cause any issues? 90% of my fins are brand new but the bottom of the fins kind corroded but ac works great

You should be OK. But keep a fin straightener close by and straighten them out if needed.
