Thanks for the video. It made me think fixing the tap wouldn't be that hard. It turns out we have ceramic valves, but I just took the whole valve to a plumbers' merchant so they could see it, and got a replacement pair for ~£13. There was a little gotcha, in that the new "cold" valve (with the blue washer) made the tap turn the wrong way, but I worked out that I needed to use the "hot" valve for the cold tap, and then all was well.

Extra tip, if you do this job on a single pillar type tap, gert hold of an Easytapsplitter, see video on here, some tap headgear can be extremely tight and may cause damage to tap, sink or pipework, and turn this "simple" task into a nightmare. Plumbing can be very unpredictable.

Nice video. this helped me fix my kitchen mixer tap. I bought the washers in anticipation. However after finally removing the valves and pulling a muscle in my neck (don't ask! they were corroded on badly) I had the ceramic valve type. Screwfix has these for a pair £5.50 can't beat that price. no more drip and a nice smooth action. I have the qtr turn type and had to put a couple of washers under the handles as they were forcing into the tap casing when tightening the retaining screws.

Sometimes the insides of the tap are damaged and if this is the case the new washer will not solve the problem. You may need to reseat the tap or if the tap is old, then replace the whole thing. I don't have a video about reseating a tap myself but there is probably one to be found. Good luck!

Had to watch 5 rubbish vids before finally finding you - thanks! Can you advise me? My shower leaks but it is a thermostatic shower so the leaking tap is hot and cold. There is least leakage if I turn it slightly on (???). 2 questions: 1, will it be the same inside if I open it and can I just change one washer (bit scared to open it but it looks like your tap under the plastic), and 2. do I need to stop both hot and cold water before repairing? Thanks in advance

Nice and clear. i have a tap exactly like that, it leaks from spout head. To stop the leak, you need to really tighten the hot water tap. More than usual tight. You think it's a hot tap washer or spout washer? Thanks 🛀🛀🛀
