Nice and clear. i have a tap exactly like that, it leaks from spout head. To stop the leak, you need to really tighten the hot water tap. More than usual tight. You think it's a hot tap washer or spout washer? Thanks 🛀🛀🛀

Nice video. this helped me fix my kitchen mixer tap. I bought the washers in anticipation. However after finally removing the valves and pulling a muscle in my neck (don't ask! they were corroded on badly) I had the ceramic valve type. Screwfix has these for a pair £5.50 can't beat that price. no more drip and a nice smooth action. I have the qtr turn type and had to put a couple of washers under the handles as they were forcing into the tap casing when tightening the retaining screws.

Thanks for the video. It made me think fixing the tap wouldn't be that hard. It turns out we have ceramic valves, but I just took the whole valve to a plumbers' merchant so they could see it, and got a replacement pair for ~£13. There was a little gotcha, in that the new "cold" valve (with the blue washer) made the tap turn the wrong way, but I worked out that I needed to use the "hot" valve for the cold tap, and then all was well.

hi, thanks for your video. I did exactly the same, but still hard to close and drip water, what else should do next?
@Stopcocks7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the insides of the tap are damaged and if this is the case the new washer will not solve the problem. You may need to reseat the tap or if the tap is old, then replace the whole thing. I don't have a video about reseating a tap myself but there is probably one to be found. Good luck!

Hi there, I'm looking to chase the wall to put the rad pipes in as they're on show at the moment. I'd like to do it myself is it quite easy to do?
@Stopcocks8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tara, Thanks for watching our channel. It all depends on what the wall is made of really. If you have the tools to chase out the wall whatever its made of then it shouldn't be too hard to do. Then there's the pipes themselves. Copper fittings are the narrowest so walls won't need a lot of chasing. All very well if you can solder. (Can you BTW?) It's all more complex than I can go into here coz you need to drain down the system etc. Where are you based? Perhaps one of our trusty women plumbers can help.

Hi Mark, You're absolutely right, and I agree that is what I should've done at the time. I went back and put that right but sadly had no one filming me. There have been a few people commenting to that effect, so I would like anyone who see's this video to know that the pipe work has been put right (by me) since this film was made.

Stopcocks Women Plumbers did you not look at the pipes once you had finished and think maybe i should change it now
@nichollinworth26019 жыл бұрын
+Mark James I agree! I would not leave the pipes like that. At the very least turn the connectors, but ideally I would change the pipework. Having spent the money on a new rad, and the time fitting the radiator correctly, it would be crazy not to finish the job properly, even if it does mean the hassle of modifying the pipework.

Hi Hattie thanks for your response, how can i tell the flow from the return? i read that if i turn on my central heating check the pipes left and right whilst the heating is heating up the rads and see which pipe heats first, if the left or right pipe heats first that's the flow, is that the correct way to identify the flow thanks.
@hh2babe10 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. Good luck :)
@police561210 жыл бұрын
Hi There, i was watching your video and yes i have picked up some very good tips thanks. I just want to ask you, how do i idenify the flow and return on my pipework? i have already taken off my rad to change for another and i want to add a thermostatic valve in place, and it already has both sides installed with ordinary turning valves, so how do i identify and should the thermotat valve be fitted to the flow or return can you please advise thankyou very much.
@hh2babe10 жыл бұрын
Most Thermostatic valves are bi-directional these days. This means they can be fitted on either the flow or the return side.

that was d.i.y. style fitting at its best lol. never put pipe on a bodge it angle like that!!! radiator measurements for wall hanging are far simpler than shown in that vid, also way it was measured to the bottom of the rad hanger and then marked on the wall to line up with the bottom of the wall bracket would then mean the rad being a good half inch or more lower than intended (depending on the manufacturer and supplied bracket). also, forget about the flow and the return, no longer an issue

As an installer I am sure you will have struggled to locate brass stopcocks in homes that you have worked in and then not been able to turn off the stopcock off if you are able to locate it. I am also sure that you will have many customers who can not access their brass stopcock or find it difficult to use. The Surestop range of stopcocks and water switches can help protect your customers from the risk of water damage and can help generate additional revenue for your business.
