Thank you!!! From all the professional mechanics that I watched I did not found how to release the window until I watched your video and I found out about that little plastic part that is holding the window. I was always looking for another type of holding device. Once again I learned from a women how to do a men's job, I'm happy for you.

I came here to find a solution and you did not disappoint, Joyce. Thanks to you, I managed to get the door panel off without doing any damage. I suspect my plastic window clip tabs sheared off because the original cables became bound, which was due to the window not being used for many months. (The cable took a "set", which I corrected by manipulating with pliers.) It was an act of desperation that made me unwind both cables, which I am glad I did. Tip: Open and close every window at least once per month. When removing the inner pin from the window connection, I found it easier to insert a #10 screw into the inner pin center and pull it out, rather than driving it through with a hammer. A $5 window clip is scheduled to arrive next week. Thanks to your video, I'm pretty confident that will fix the problem.

Many many thanks, Thanks to your explanation on HOW to remove the little plastic "knobs" I realized how to remove the glass from the regulator's system ON MY JAGUAR X-TYPE (Apparently they have the same window system) Wow, you posted this video 10 years ago and it is still very helpful. BRAVO

THANK YOU! Without this video I wouldn't have had the "cojhonies" to do it myself and so proud of myself now for accomplishing! One thing- I agree with the below commenter... the HARDEST PART is freeing the glass... don't get frustrated- stick with it! The easiest way to explain it is that you need to "pop out" the plastic round cylinder from the regulator to release it by pushing it backwards almost "through" the glass to the back of the door- save the cylinder for the replacement

The button that holds the window glass to the plastic part of the regulator is a two piece affair. The inner part of it is hollow and it forces the outer piece to stay in by expanding it. Use a long wood screw and thread it into the inner piece that is hollow. Use pliers or grips to pull the screw out with this piece on it. Then you can easily push the outer part in and catch it with your other hand placed up behind the glass where this button is located.

The "window release button" is actually a smaller pin inside of the larger pin. I sprayed some PB Blaster on the pin that goes through a round hole in the window. Then I used a wedge at the bottom of the window next to the plastic part that holds the regulator to the window to hold the window stationary. I then used an Allen wrench that was just small enough to fit through the hole in the center of the larger pin and gave it a gentle whack. Once the smaller pin popped out, the larger pin can be easily removed.

+Kristopher Kammerdiener I just fixed my sister's rear window. I used a 5/32 drill bit to slightly enlarge the smaller pin's opening then used a 7/32 drill bit to drill partially into the pin then reversed the drill drive and the smaller pin came out intact. I pushed the larger pin forward by hand and the window released from regulator. Make sure to secure window to door frame with duct tape so it doesn't come crashing down upon release.

Watch more videos on KZread to help you diagnose the problem. If you "hear" the window regulator attempting to move the window up, it's probably the cable. You might have to open the door panel to know for sure. If you decide to order the part and replace it yourself, usually the regulator and cable are all one part. In my case I tried to replace just the cables. I wish I had bought and replaced the whole part.

In reply to Zero OreZ (this Google + thing isn't working) - it's been so long since I've worked on the regulator I've forgotten exactly how the cables connect but I think both connect right near each other in that white plastic piece - might be just a very small notch. Look at photos of new ones you can purchase to get a better idea.
