i have an f* load of old and broken gfx cards and mobos... some of them i can even see exploded capacitors and fuses... the problem is i wouldn't know chips to replace them with so they have been sitting in a box collecting dust... i love watching this kind of videos... it really changes the fate of those parts and preventing them from being discarded due to premature failures...

Cool. Im returning mine, I got RX460 windforce 4GB. Fans work at 100% from the boot, and doesn’t disable after boot. Don’t give video signal on the HDMI port and it’s not recognised by windows or the bios which one was the problem with your GPU?

good, but if the solder ball not melted properly it will be broen again soon , maybe about 14-60days. reball at least 1 year

Thanks have a card here with the same issue removed one of the MOSFET IR3553 now the short is gone going to order a pack of 5 IR3553 so I have some spares.

I am using an old Fluke Multimeter the cheapest multi-meter with a speaker will work its best to have needle pointed probes. For the Heat gun, I use Quick 681DW its best to use an under heater on some of these cards they absorb so much heat.

hello nice video i had similar problem 2 fuses blowned and one mosfet out but it was the 3rd one from buttom i had to take 2 to find the culprit......i resolder the good one back , my question is is there any replacement mosfet for these one ? also i am having difficulty to read the part # of these mosfet ( wich one you put ) thanks

Great work man. So far managed to repair 2 this way. I do have a problem with some stubborn capacitors that are reeeeaaallly hard to remove. What soldering iron do you recommend for easy removal, 100W 150W?

i only use goot 60w original solder replace solder tips with custom or i use hakko solder with T12-C4 if u have a hard solder with caps ussually i use hot air and solder together it will easy to remove it

What if nothing's shorted, yet still no power to gpu/vram. All 3v 5v 12v is there, but no 0.8v-1v on mosfet low side. Btw, ever replace vram chip? It'll be helpful if you can make a video how to detect which vram chip is bad and show replacement process. Great channel, very straightforward and easy to follow.

Hello! I had an RX470, it was working normally until one fine day it didn't show up anymore. When it first started it was still up and then there was a whistling in the choke (I think). I changed PSU, applied thermal paste. Each time it boots up only 20s then not up anymore. Can you guess what is wrong with it?

I've got two broken HD 7970's but I can only find two fuses (smaller than those in the video), seems to be no fuses for the external PCI-E power connections. The MOSFET's seem to be of another type aswell, don't know how to measure them. Do you have any good advice for me?

Look for the numbers on top of the MOSFET search them and it will tell you what is ground gate and drain

so my r9 290 has the same issue and 3 mosfets are shorted. looking in ebay i can find 3553m mosfets(same as my card uses) but the other numbers do not line up. is it safe to use other 3553 mosfets to replace the dead ones or do the replacements have to be exactly the same as the dead ones ?

Yes as it is only transistor type model MOSFET... The different numbers i s week the where made or batch number. Model needs to be same so IR3553M is a must any time!

That's awesome! Question, how did you determine which mosfet to replace? it seemed to me all but the bottom one or 2 were beeping with the VIN

I’ve got an rx480 that gives picture before installing Radeon drivers. After drivers load it black screens. I feel it gets really hot around the mosfet area. Where do i start the diagnosis?

Have you ever had the little 2x2mm AZY chip gone bad? I have one thats heating up and the powerdelivery doesnt work. All Fets and capacitors are fine... Really odd failure point but I can not find what that chip is

I'm doing the same and i just cannot get the VRMs to desolder. I'm using a Weller hot air pencil and also soldering iron to provide more local heat and the VRM is solid! What temperatures and hot air gun are you using? I had the hot air on at 400C for 15 mins before adding the iron to the IC at 450C and only managed to melt the exposed solder pads, the chip is solid.

is it usually No1 that blows because it is closer to the power in and the others have some resistance in the longer tracks? Any advantage to adding more mosfets in the gaps where components are missing? Any idea why this blew? We are thinking ours blew as we were trying to run 5x 4gb cards on one 650W PSU voltage probably dropped and current spiked.

Hi, i have a problem with a MIS ARMOR 8GB OC RX580, the fans are not working properly, i bought replacements and they have the same problem, they work for a while and then stop working, apart from that the card performs very good, tried multiple drivers old and new, if i take out the card for a couple of days it will work again, then the fans stop after 10 or 20 min of use, no matter the temp of the GPU the fans will not spin not even at startup, i have the stock Vbios, this card is used dunno if it was a minning card or not, i was wondering if maybe there is a resistance or something that controls de power going to the fans, it allways work i can use it normally and it will remain at 60 deg C, unless i start a game, any ideas what can it be? Thanks !

How did you find all the information on what to check on each component and do you use the gpu's diagram or anything like that? Or are the names of the components written on the components themselves and then check what power should go through where or anything like that?

The GPU card itself is build like a little town. Any manufacturer needs to follow amd so on any card MOSFET is used for power stage.. To repair first check fuse the power and so on.. The info for the mosefet is found via Google and the part number is printed in them so..

Bruh, so I had my asus rx580 sent to warranty for repair. And now it is crashing, 0 OC potential (I have to underclock for playing) and they said that it is working. I added some heatsinks on the vrm and only then I can play. The vrm was originaly bad, they've replaced 3 mosfets. It has 6 phases, I think that just half are working. When I play demanding games the vrm skyrocket to 90-120°C. What should I do?

Nice job fixing that GPU man, keep it up. I have some questions about fixing GPUs. A friend of mine had a GTX 750 Ti, but one day he had a blackout at home. When he tried to turn on the PC, it didn't display any signal, so he bought another GPU and I asked him to give me his 750. After a couple of tests I've noticed that the GPU actually works because the PC starts up withouth problems, but there is not signal. I really want to fix it because where I live the components are too expensive. Do you have any clue of what could it be? Checking the back of the card I noticed that there is a resistor that has a black dot in the middle. Could it be the problem? I'd like to show you some pics of it.

Dude, I want to ask something, so my GPU (Strix RX470 4GB) somehow can't be detected by my motherboard (MSI B350M Pro-VH and I also tried changing to ASRock A320M R.4 all bios updated) but it worked just fine on my friend's rig (He got A10 kaveri with ASRock something mobo and VS450 psu) Why is it so? Tried to change my PSU though (From Corsair CX600 2013 to Antec NE550C) and it still doesn't work (no display), it can be detected but very rarely (about 5% chance maybe) and everytime I plug in and replug the HDMI to my GPU, it kinda give my monitor a little feedback (from "no display" to blank screen > searching for output), do you think what could be the problem? I still have local guarantee though about 3 more months, but im not sure if it's the VGA because it works very well on my friend's PC Nice video btw :)

Did you notice when try to your friend rig it run properly x16, or x8. On intel pciex primary slot when gpu trouble on run x16 it won't display.

Did you ever clean up hsf from dust, and change with good paste. Quadro max temp around 105-110 then it restart or hang.daily used about 70-85c

@@alexbedini731 thermal pad fir vram, every vendor use 2mm thickness. But depend on space between hsf and vram/mosfet.

How did you determine that Mosfet was #1 to remove? They all had the same beep on VIN

service charge depend on graphics card series, usually about 30% from second hand price.

MY gpu seems to be working fine after reheating it using hair dryer for 30 mins but after 2-3 days of using while gaming, it shows green lines flickers and sometimes it doesnt display or the pc reboots after it crashes while playing. Why is that happening?

Hi, I have Palit 3080 Gaming Pro 10GB. I wrongly connected +12V to speed signal of double fan socket and GPU died. Now motherboard don't detect GPU. But single fan and RGB LED works when power up. I discovered the GPU. It has one Holtek HT50F52241 and one IS25WP080 and others. Your opinion, which chip controls fans? and which begins communication with motherboard? backyard studio in rx use 10A fuse, it use 7A , but it just for temporar repair, then i chanhe again buy from alixprs 10a fuse.

Hi there, I have found that my sapphire rx480 nitro+ has the same issue but with more mosfets to be repaced. You show that after replacing those mosfets the graphic card came alive, good. André Moreira check the mosfet driver IC if you still have no GPU power. Check if there are more shorts on the board. Honestly it's simply electronic stuff. Check for power and PowerEN signals. If all is good try flash the bios. If you still have no picture your GPU could be bad.

Hi, my rx460 has a bad fuse marked for 10A, I only was able to scavenge the one from dead xbox 360 but it is black and marked for 9. would it do the job ? Is it safe to make jump connection for a while ? I would be thankful for reply

put in the 9A one, no fuse means you blow up the card in case of a surge

Bought a defective palit gt 740 1gb gddr5 worth 4 dollars and when I powered it up no display fan is spinning but when I connect the vga to onboard it has display it seems the gpu is not detected even in the bios. I tried heating the chip but no luck

Any luck? Palit cards are just bad, my palit gtx1060 has the same issue. Never buying palit cards again.

Great job. Im having so much problems with that kind of mosfet on r9 390. I change one, another blow up, change that different one blow up. At least 5 of them went with magic smoke. Im hoping changing mosfet driver will make a difference because the only thing that im questioning beside that is my soldering skills🥴
