So I've done a very recent repair last week on a kitchen and dining ceiling. I used FibaTape and hot mud. That FibaTape worked so well! I didn't have to cut around the hole or anything! I only use that tape on ceilings. My texture blend didn't work as well as I wanted. It was a newer home 1990's. I think it was a textured crows foot roller brush then knockdown style because the crows foot was super detailed. Anyway, I have no idea why I'm sharing this...oh ya, give FibaTape a shot!

Checkout a product from Ready Set called OnePass. It has cement in it and sets within 20 mins. It can be applied up to 1" thick so you could skip the backer wood and just fold in a piece of metal lathe and unfold it when it's up in the drywall. When you apply the OnePass it sticks the mesh to drywall while also providing a "key" for the OnePass to work itself into. Wet blade feather edge it out onto the edge profile of the drywall and you won't need to sand but you could still sand if you want (40 mins after mixing). Then you can prime/paint after that and do what you need to do to match adjacent texture etc. The product is truly glorious and I wish I had learned about it sooner. I can patch a hole, spray can prime, and then roll paint all within 1 1/2 hrs

I use 1x2"s to 1x4's, depending on the size of the patch. Also, get a drywall screw bit. It stops driving the screw when it hits the right level. DeWalt makes one, and so do several other companies.
Why didn't you use the same hole saw at 3:28? The pencil seems less precise.
Handyman, if you removed the paper off of the patch doesn’t the patch then have to be primered first before apply compound?

Hope it has a conditioned attic
I don't know why, but i can definitely see that something is going on ! Our dear handyman looks a bit sad ? I hope I'm wrong.
Why use paper tape or tape overall? I don’t see the purpose?
Hot mud doesn't take paint the same as normal mud so I will be able to see the patches
A contractor garbage bag makes a really easy, cheap, disposable tarp on the counter for mixing mud.
How old is this video?
Where is the link to that sanding screen?

Am I tripping or was there a random garage door tip in the middle of this video? My brain was so confused. I have adhd, you can't do this to me LOL
Put it at .5 playback speed if you want to hear what he's saying and whistles while he fast forwards certain parts 😂
I believe this process is called ( Hot Patching)....
Hey mister handyman, you didn't show us a close up. :)

This adult videos are great 😐
You sped up the most important parts so that we couldn't get a sense of the technique. Additionally, you didn't show what you are drilling into and how that is positioned.
Here's to mud in y'er eye - nice job. 🍺😜_¶"

The Handyman it’s the least I could do. I’m sure the fine print on those sponsorship deals is completely organized around clawbacks regarding this sort of thing.
Repair drywall
Is it me or was that video very pixelated?
You don't need to do that! just make a circular california patch with a hole saw.
How much for the sanding attachment?

Why not just cut a square piece of drywall and trace it to the ceiling. Then all you need to do is cut out the ceiling to match the piece and screw it in place. You made it way more complicated then it needed to be.
Nothing worse than having to contend with drywall over plaster and metal mesh what a pita
Well there's one thing you got wrong #dec23itisnot
Your only 2 weeks off. lol
you obviously have no idea how annoying your whistling is
