@Tyler Libby Excellent video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you researched - Chiveard Racing World Framework (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great exclusive guide for learning how to start a successful handyman business minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor after many years got great results with it.

So I've done a very recent repair last week on a kitchen and dining ceiling. I used FibaTape and hot mud. That FibaTape worked so well! I didn't have to cut around the hole or anything! I only use that tape on ceilings. My texture blend didn't work as well as I wanted. It was a newer home 1990's. I think it was a textured crows foot roller brush then knockdown style because the crows foot was super detailed. Anyway, I have no idea why I'm sharing this...oh ya, give FibaTape a shot!

its better to patch and cut the hole to match a patch than to force the patch to meet the hole size. Super simple, make a small drywall square, trace it on the ceiling and cut out new patch hole. Screw into place with backers.

I use something similar to sand mud but I think yours looks easier to use. I also get those drywall dust bags for my shop vac. The filter never gets contaminated and I just remove the bag for use in between drywall sanding.

If the damage is just brown water stains, gently brush them with a soft artists paint brush dipped in laundry bleach. Should fade the stains pretty well.

Checkout a product from Ready Set called OnePass. It has cement in it and sets within 20 mins. It can be applied up to 1" thick so you could skip the backer wood and just fold in a piece of metal lathe and unfold it when it's up in the drywall. When you apply the OnePass it sticks the mesh to drywall while also providing a "key" for the OnePass to work itself into. Wet blade feather edge it out onto the edge profile of the drywall and you won't need to sand but you could still sand if you want (40 mins after mixing). Then you can prime/paint after that and do what you need to do to match adjacent texture etc. The product is truly glorious and I wish I had learned about it sooner. I can patch a hole, spray can prime, and then roll paint all within 1 1/2 hrs
