Repainting a Slot Car - Livery Change for Carrera D132 Road Runner Stock Car

Changing the livery on a 1:32 scale 1970 Plymouth Nascar stock car slot car that involves a complete disassembly of the body, stripping of the factory paint, repaint, and applying of custom decals. The slot car in the video is a Carrera digital 132 car, but the process will be the same for other brands such as Scalextric, Ninco, Policar, and others both digital and analog slot cars.
The old paint is removed with the aid of isopropyl alcohol, kitchen pot scrubbing sponge, stiff toothbrush, and cotton swabs. New paint is Testor’s gloss white enamel. Decals were designed on a graphics drawing program and printed on clear waterslide inkjet decal sheets. The new livery was designed to mimic the simple liveries of the period in which the 1970 Road Runner ran in Nascar.

Easy off oven cleaner, Ive been using it for years on model trains and haven't had an issue. Use in a well ventilated area for sure and once you spray it on the shell, let it sit for 30-40 mins and use a small scrubber brush or toothbrush. Removes all paint clean.

Nice. Instead of inkjet I went with the laser decals and took them to my local Office Depot to print on their really nice printers. You kind of have to convince them you know what you're doing, because they don't like running "your" paper through their machine, but the result is 2x as crisp with no chance of bleeding when you clearcoat.

Yes! I forgot to mention in the video that the decal paper is available for laser jet as well. And, you are right, employees at Office Depot and Stinko's get persnickety about using other media in their printers. But that's understood as if you were to put a mylar sticker sheet through a laserjet it'll melt and gum up the works pretty good.

I could write a dozen paragraphs on using Photoshop explaining everything in just this one project. Are you wondering how the text was made? Or the shading? Using layers? If you could be more specific then I can craft a succinct answer.

@@nlmmadden Photoshop does have somewhat of a steep learning curve. Your best bet would be to search KZread for Photoshop tutorials on specific tasks you are trying to do. I'm using version 7.0 which is 20 years old, and know how to use maybe 1% of its capabilities. I could use some tutorials myself.

Short answer: Freehand 10. Long answer: Macromedia Freehand, which is no longer available. It was originally developed by a company called Altsys who licensed it to Aldus, which was then later bought by Adobe at which point the licensing went back to Altsys who then subsequently licensed it to Macromedia. Macromedia was later bought by Adobe who then killed it because it was a competitor to their own graphic design product titled Illustrator.

My guess is that it would be okay. Alcohol isn't very caustic even at high concentrations. It would be a good idea to try it on an old junky slot car if you have one, or maybe on a small area first just to be sure.
