    got my cerakoted single black diamond in last week. honestly my only complaint with it is the color! I wish the red was a much deeper red. I did go back and forth between the cerakote and SS for quite awhile, and after seeing this video I am a little sad I didn't splurge the extra for the SS. but that just means I can put it towards a new REP bench too :)

    Loved the breakdown. I have a SS OPB and a SS DBD. Im a squat, bench, deadlift guy. I wanted a 2nd bar to help set up multiple stations. I love both bars. I like the rep DBD better, bc i like the aggressive kjurling. My hands have been toughened up with the Rogue OPB, and now i like deadlifting with the rep DBD. The slop in the sleeves is much better in the Rep DBD also.

    Thanks. You are absolutely right, the tolerances on the Rep bars is way better than Rogue's stuff. Also 100% great advice I should have mentioned. If you don't have some decent callouses built up, you're prob not going to love the DBD. You have to be an experienced lifter to appreciate/like it.

    Great review on the power barbell comparison. It would be great if Rep Fitness offered a "bare" option to there barbell lineup. The Texas Power Barbell 29mm or the ISF "Lift Evil Chaos Power Barbell" (not offered anymore) are my go too for the sharpness feel. My brother bought a Kabuki Oregon Power Bar which is awesome, very grippy not sharp, I would recommend. I have a Rep Helios Squat Barbell, a great bar, just not a fan of the cerakote which dulls the knurl as you stated. Again great review 👍👍

    Thanks! You are absolutely right, steel and ss just feel better than Cerakote. And I don't buy my barbells to look at, I lift with them, so that's important. That Kabuki bar is sweet. Just a bit out of my price range, though.

    Cheers for the comparison. I've only ever used one "good" barbell. The Rogue SS OPB 20kg. I love it. Well worth the purchase of any good barbell over the bars you find in a random commercial gym. I would love to try/compare to other bars but alas... The only other bar I would like to purchase is a weightlifting bar for weightlifting (of course), but also for front squats and overhead squats. One day...

    @@jasonmckinney3876 I got to try both the deadlift and squat bar at Home Gym Con and both are really great bars. For me, the American Barbell Chewy bar is a better choice. It's gripper without being sharp. Yes, it's a lot more expensive, but it's my favorite bar and perfect for deadlifts. Another reason I prob won't get the Rep is that I don't lift heavy enough to take advantage of the other benefits outside of the knurl. I was at the show with some guys who can pull 500 pounds (I can't do that for sure!) and they really liked the whip and how the bar came up out of the hole. They also liked the sharpness of the knurl, but my callouses aren't even close to on par with theirs.

    Yeah, I was never excited about reps previous line up of barbells I believe Rogue definitely had the edge on them there even though you may not like rogue they made a better bar at that time, but now Reps new lineup seems to be on par. There are now many companies making good quality imported bars and Rep is one of them, but if you’re looking for made in the USA or just the best bar at that price I think it’s gotta be the American barbell chewy bars, They seemed to best well-made bar regardless of price. One thing that bothers or concerns me is why didn’t rep use the Colorado bar sleeve construction on the double black diamond and single black diamond power bars? That man gave him a leg up on the Rogue bars if they did kinga like the Rogue Hydrid bar.

    Excellent Video I bet 99% of home gym owners ain't forking out the money for the Chewy bar, they priced themselves out of the entire market except rich people. I'm looking for a power bar and I like your recommendation. My go to bar right now is the Midas bar from Fringesport, I just love the look of it but it has no center knurl. That's not a big factor with me but I do want a power bar in my gym. Thnkx for this comparison!!!!!!

    The Chewy bar is an IPF spec bar, so I think they are focused on the competitive lifters out there. It's crazy what people spend on their hobbies, and for people who lift competitively as their hobby, $600-$1200 is no big deal for them. NOt really about being rich, just spending money on what you love. But I agree, 99% of people do NOT need that bar for their garage gym. That's why I love Rep's line so much. And the Midas bars are really sweet.

    @@GymCrafter American Barbell bars are really well made. The Chewy is the most aggressive bar they make and is more expensive than most of their other bars. I have the Grizzley Power Bar and it is a wonderful everyday bar, and quite a bit cheaper than the Chewy.

    Not defending Rogue, but having been searching for the 'one power bar to rule them all' for about 2 years now, there are some advantages. 1) Work hardening on their stainless (which is new), which seemingly no one else is doing right now, giving a significantly stronger bar 2) Rogue has confirmed via email that the hybrid power bar tolerances for axial and radial float are now incorporated into the other ohio power bars (but not the aggro yet). The grippy-ness of the Chewy is quite interest, as Gluck's gym had it ranked most passive. Darn, it's hard to decide. Looking for the grippiest 29 mm power bar possible, to allow at least double overhand chaulkless deadlifts 405+, which I can't do now on my B&R 2.0 bare steel. Thoughts? I thought an aggro 2x would be the one, but the chewy proposition is interesting.

    You must be lifting pretty heavy to be able to notice the differences those things make. I don't lift even close to enough to notice. As for the knurl, check out Basement Brandon's reviews of the Chewy bar. I believe he now owns 2 or 3 of them and he is a competitive powerlifter. His remarks on the knurling may better line up with the type of lifting you do. I'm just a 53 year old old guy trying to beat back father time. I haven't even tried to PR in years.

    Hello, thank you for the video I have a question I'm currently using an opb to do deadlift, but my hands hurt so much at high weights I'm looking for another barbell 1. I'm torn between Delta Babel and Black Diamond, is Black Diamond a sharpness similar to opb? 2. Delta, opb, or black diamond, which barbells hurt the most when deadlift hands? thank you

  • @GymCrafter

    @GymCrafter

    4 ай бұрын

    It's very common for people to think the OPB is too aggressive. While it's a great bar for serious lifters with a boat load of callouses, it's a terrible bar for ordinary people who only train 2-3 times a week. I think the Black Diamond bar in Cerakote would work great for you. It's a touch less aggressive than the stainless version but still has fantastic grip. The Black Diamond bar is what all of my clients prefer for all around use. The Delta bar is a great bar, but the more I use it, the more I think it's too passive of a knurl. For a budget bar price point, the Living.Fit Cerakote bar is a better choice. It has better grip and is not too aggressive by any means. It does not have a center knurl if that matters for you, but it's a great lower priced barbell. Hope that helps! Oh... OPB's usually have really good resale value, so you may be able to get most of your money back by selling it.
