REO Gold Comet Ramp Truck Build - Removing front axle
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After standing in my yard for more than a year, we finally make a start on reviving the rare REO Gold Comet truck. I give a little history, before we remove the front axle for kingpin replacement and rebuilding the front brakes.

Thank you for the video. As a youngster my buddies and I used to play in an old logging and mining equipment yard. A graveyard for old big rigs, cranes and tractors. Lots of Mac, REO, Diamond, Autocar, White and International Harvester equipment from the same era as your "new" truck. Some good looking trucks back then. I appreciate you, thank you so much!

REO brings back some great memories my father had 1929 REO Speedwagon was great truck and he had a REO Flying Cloud which was like a limousine it had jump seat in back Mohair Interior keep up the good work!
Now THAT'S a beauty!!!😲👍
Hey Diff the man of many projects !!! Hope this helps !! For the 1960's, REO was purchased by the White Motor Corp in 1958. White also bought Diamond T in 1959. In 1960 White closed the Diamond T plant in Chicago and moved all production to the REO plant in Lansing Mich, including heavy duty special order Whites. The REO cab had been designed in the mid 50's and was also used on Diamond T's after 1959. White had also bought Autocar in 1953 so the basic REO or Diamond T truck had the REO cab with an optional Autocar Driver Cab available. By the mid 60's basically the REO cab was used for local vocational day cab use and the Autocar Cab was used for over the road highway applications, with a hearty dose of mix and match of sheet metal and badges. During this period of time there could be 3 identical trucks come down the Lansing Mich assembly line and drive out the door as 3 different brands!!. On May 1st, 1967 White combined the 2 trucks and created the Diamond REO Name, and DR continued to use both cabs. The model listing from the November 1965 Reo Salesman's Manual provides some insight into how many different models REO offered. Model lists from the late 50's and early 60's Salesman's Manual show similar numbers of models. The many models, often with numerous engine, transmission and rear axle options, depict the challenge Reo/Bohn, Reo/White, Diamond Reo/White, Diamond Reo had as an independent producer manufacturing what is believed to be 5000 units or less annually. The information of one 60's Reo, the F-830D-OH, (F- Autocar cab; 830 - heavy; D- Diesel; OH- off highway) shows it offered five engines, eight transmissions, two auxiliaries, and five rear axles. Most of the lighter 200- 500 series, non diesel models would not have had the range of engine, transmission and rear axle options the F-830D-OH offered. There is said to be at least two survivors of this heavy duty Reo. Robert Gabrick has written books about both REO and Diamond T which may still be available thru Motorbooks and/or Amazon. There is another book on Reo called "The World's Toughest Truck" by Ebert, Neal, and Fijalkovich. that includes the '60's and later models. There was also a pretty active Reo and Diamond-Reo page on Facebook.

i bought a 1966 Dodge D500 about the same size truck had been sitting for 20 years got it up and running it has a Holmes 500 wrecker on the back bought new that way i drive it all along for fun have towed a few cars with it does good
I drove what we called a Diamond Rio tire service truck in the mid 70s , it looks alot like yours but as I remember it had a longer pointed nose ( grill&hood). Don't know much about the mechanics but I remember it always ran well , but was slow a hell going up hill or level , but run like the wind down hill.!!! The two speed rear end was a problem most time. Just shifted when it felt like it . If I was to guess it was mid 50s to mid 60s for the year. Sorry can't tell you more .

If you go to take the back wheel’s off. Just loosen the nuts then. Whack the wheel with a hammer. To loosen up the wedges they’re under pressure. And will fly off at a high rate of speed.

Lots work lol . Now i dont know if this applies to the reo but to turn a drum being i to have a shop in the woods beyond electricity got solar and generator. Its a ways to town so back to the brakes ive started flipping the drums putting them on the rear and turning them by putting the truck in gear spinning the drum alowing me with a good flapper weel to turn out imperfections, wear , and groves . I just try make sure as i go i grind it even. So far ive turned drums and rotors that way on a rotor it just won't take out a warp .just a idea 💡. Thanks for the hard work and videos
