Set in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera RENT tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness, and the AIDS epidemic. RENT is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, one of the longest-running shows on Broadway. The raw and riveting musical stars Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Tracie Thoms and is directed by Chris Columbus.

Just saw tick tick boom and came here. Jonathan Larson was amazing, its a shame he never got to see how big of a success his show was. I wonder what amazing musicals and songs the world could have had if he were alive.

In Tick Tick Boom Jonathan is told to write about what he knows, and when you look at his life you can already see the pieces of RENT coming together. The way he lived, the friends he had. Amazing.

RIP Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 - January 25, 1996), aged 35 You will be remembered as a legend.
I hope tick tick boom fuels a new wave of love for Rent. One of the most heartfelt musicals ever made, and my personal favorite ❤️

This makes me tear up. The memories of a theater kid who can't sing and dance but had a dream. Been given chances to do it in school and outside. Never the main cast but a proud member and ensemble. Theater made me the person I am today. I'm 29 and Jonathan made me think about where I am and where I am headed
I love this musical! Just watched Tick, tick... Boom last night and haven't stopped thinking about it. It's so inspiring what Jonathan accomplished and yet so tragic he didn't see the fruition of his labor. It's his forever legacy! 💙

Very very good point. I’m super hard on this movie bc I was a huge RENT head growing up, but now realize how lucky I was to see it live while it was still on bway / touring. Hopefully you’ll get to experience it some day because there’s truly nothing like it! Especially the opening. I’ve seen the show live nine times 🤓 but it gives me chills every time.
Anyone else suprised that others have only more recently discovered the music RENT due to tick tick boom.. like makes sense but this has been one of my favourite musicals ever since it came out and I'm just so suprised how many don't know this musical!?

Recently I've grown to love Larson's music, I've listened to the OG Tick Tick Boom soundtrack, seen Rent and also listened to a compilation record of unreleased material called "The Jonathan Larson Project" and I could safely say he could've been something akin to Elton John and Billy Joel had he lived, to me three of them are my musical trinity ❤️
@michellec5407

More akin to Michael Jackson! Because like Michael, Jonathan knew what what worked. Not just the fans, but with the world. They both put their hearts and souls into everything they do. Also they both wanted to open the eyes of people that were and still dying. They both cared about human beings being who they where.

This song is instructive on the scale of large numbers. Numbers gets so thrown around these days... how many miles to the moon? I actually looked at the math, and indeed, a year is "only" 525,600 minutes. Seems like it should be more? We have no conceptual understanding of numbers.
