I like the respectful way you conduct your inventory. I wonder if you fully recognize the value of SOME of that inventory. For example, I saw a stack of dimensional lumber that you would find very pricey to buy. You mentioned the tools, but I rather imagine you are looking at thousands of Euros in tools, plumbing supplies, etc. as someone who has purchased similar houses off grid, I found myself envious of the supplies and clean, dry support buildings. Finally, I was amused that you didn’t know what a kerosine Hester was! In the mid-60s I lived poor in the UK and those smelly things were my only heat. It is obvious you grew up in a more affluent UK, when every structure had central heating. I am going to follow your delightful venture.

Pleace ask your neigbours for help, because you will need them when the winter comes. I guess they would like it to😀. And install an engine and passenger compertement heater to your car otherwise you can get problems starting it in the winter. And you just lift the doors right upp to loosen them you dont have to remove the hinges. Love your positive attitude😀👍but dont forget to relaxe and recharge your batterys..👋y

It is difficult to give advices as videos are like a month old, but seeing it I like to just shout out some tips. Like the kitchen doors, or stop removing wallpaper and put 6mm renovation plaster sheets instead. But I can understand the satisfaction for them to figure out thing themselves as well. They are doing really well 😀. Get friends with neighbors is a really good idea.

Welcome to the north of Sweden! You will experience the amazing "norrsken" (Aurora Borealis, Northern lights)! You will also find out how incredible silent it is outside. Don't get scarred, its just the sound of your own heartbeats! The best time for many who lives up here is the spring season. Imaging skiing on "skare" (the hard surface of the snow, frozen after a days meting in the sun), in the moonlight! Get prepared for the daylight getting shorter and shorter by the day, but remember that by the end of January the daylight will increase by 30 min/week! The darkness of the winter is more than compensated by the long days in the summer! A tip is to put up dark curtains in your bedroom, even we who live up here have sometimes problems with sleep and the summerlight outside. You will notice that we love to put up all kinds small strings with lamps outside when its gets dark. From the beginning this was a X-mas thing, but today its quite okey to put them up in oct. This is our way to fight the darkness! Good luck!

Välkommen till Lappland! I live further down the river valleys from you, by the cost, but I have had a lot of time and thought spend around Arvidsjaur and Arjeplog. And I am a local history and fact geek so here comes a few things you might not have known: Arvidsjaur Municipality has the lowest people density in Sweden at 1 person/km^2. Think about how few people would live in London with that density. :D Despite this Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur was hardest hit in Sweden during the Spanish flu. Their large winter market February 1920 (when all the swamps, lakes and rivers were frozen so travel was safe for everyone on skis and reindeers or horses could easily pull sleighs with goods, and traders from the coast came) with its very cramped living arrangements become a super spreader event. People traveled home to their farmsteads only to die on the doorstep of home. They had no local doctor and no medicin. The Arvidsjaur store owner was ordered to help Arjeplog with medicin and equipment. So cognac and wool clothes. 75% of the population belonging to Arvidsjaur and Arjeplog got sick. In Arjeplog 2,7% of the population died of this third wave of the flu, in Arvidsjaur 2,2%. Arjeplog has a mass grave. This made the state aware of the bad medical accessibility in Norrland, they sent doctors from the south and invested in local mini hospitals, very high tech for the time, that was opening in 1924. This in turn was the inspiration for very successful adventure novels about a southerner doctor having to deal with the indigenous Saami people and the local Swedes.

Is JB saying that because Naomi is studying to be doctor she will cause problems? I do not get it. I would think a doctor and a lawyer would add to the community, not cause cause problems. I would also expect that by renovating the house , that it would help with property values in the area.

I'm happy for you guys moving to my homeland. :) I would recommend to overlook the fasade of the house and get a plumber to check the pipes. It looks like a old wood furnace that gives you the hot water. Or, find a plumber fast to get the answers for what kind of furnace you got, and after that buy wood so you don't freeze to death during the winter. Because else you will get a electricity bill from hell or definitly freeze. (In short, it's verry important to prepare the house for the winter.)

Naomi and Jack. Ofc :) good that you contacted a plumber. I myself moved to a house some years ago, so I’m talking out of my own experience. If you got a wood furnace I would ask the neighbors and people around fast where you guys could buy some chopped dried firewood. Usually in Sweden you order firewood in Mars - April to get it delivered chopped undried so you can staple and dry it during the summer. You get a lot better price when it comes undried. And don’t order it unchopped. It’s a very hard labor intense work. When it’s +14 Celsius indoors in the morning at 05-06 am and pitch dark outside. You don’t wanna spend hours chopping wood. Just the thought of chopping 2 m2 of firewood for the day gonna take several hours. And be sure to keep the firewood dry from snow and rain. Buy tarpaulin if you don’t have a wood shed to keep it in. And make sure to cover the ground with tarpaulin too so the moist doesn’t destroy the firewood.

  • @odebygden

Oh, and make sure to buy at least 15 - 20m2 of firewood. All houses and heating systems are different. So it’s hard to figure out how much firewood you need until you really know the system.

Gosh, you even have some farm stuff from old on top in one of the outhouses. I guess you may already have but would agree with what Lars Berglund in this feed says, go visit your neighbours.......us Swedes are very happy to help and if you ever in a predicament you have people to call on for help. Wintertime especially but you will have a great time starting doing up your house. I am positively envious and wish you all the best, you are set for life here and will never look back. I am so excited on your behalf. The brown soft stuff is plywood, something often used to cover walls in the past. There is an easy cover wallpaper, we use a lot in Sweden, which looks like netting and you can paint over it.......Swedish way of build differs quite a lot from the UK. As this is after you done the work it is already done but never hesitate to ask your neighbours, you will get a well of information and help if you do. Lots of love to you guys and wish you all the best. x

Great project. Welcome to Sweden. The roof on the house looks new. Thats the most important. Remember to use mask and glasses when sanding. And its best to do that outside. (if you can carry out the stuff) It gets dusty inside. Focus on the bottomfloor before winter. Renovating takes much longer that one bielive. Get a fireplace and learn to collect wood.

Just an extra reminder. Always keep your eyes peeled when driving for wild life crossing the road , especially moose. You don't want one through your windscreen.

So excited for you guys ! Try filming slowly so that we can actually see your house . The fast sweeping of t th e camera doesn’t allow for good viewing .... sorry 🙃

A bit late on this vlog, guess I'll have to go back a few. On point Sandy... the panning of the camera were a bit swift at times but enjoyed every moment of the adventure and new beginnings. All the best guys.

I have visited Sweden many times, I used to go to Gothenburg the drive up north to a small town whose name I have forgotten. Wonderful country and people. You will be very happy there, so different from the UK in lots of ways. I have friends who have done a similar thing as you have but in Hungary, they moved last year. You will be very, very happy in Sweden indeed. I wish you the very best for your future and more videos.

I hope you don't throw away any furniture, the table in the living is a classic and if you don't keep it Im sure you could sell it, try selling furniture instead of throwing it away.

You can always use oil based primer on wall paper and then paint it with latex paint. The paper will stay and not bubble or come off the wall.
