House Tour - our cabin in Northern Sweden that we renovated ourselves

The house tour is finally here! We hope you enjoy watching. I remember that when we lived with my parents in my childhood bedroom I loved watching house tours, it gave me a sense of hope, it allowed me to live vicariously through other people. Watching the joy in other people making a house a home inspired me, it helped me to imagine what it would feel like when it was finally us. I hope that this video does the same for you. We hope it inspires you to see what beauty is yet to be uncovered and encourages you to have your own adventure.

What's up everyone, we are Naomi and Jack 👋
We are a young married couple who are all about personal growth.
In summer 2020, amidst a global pandemic, we uprooted our lives in Central London and decided to move to Northern Sweden.
We were fed up of living on top of millions of other people in London, living out of one room in a flat shared with Naomi's parents, all whilst studying, working, creating KZread content and launching our business.
So we bought a car, packed it full of our belongings, and drove nearly 3000km to Sweden with no idea where we were going to live.
This year we are taking time out of studying Medicine and Law to pursue our business, BEAUTYNOIR, the Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty directory helping women to book beauty better.
So join us as we share and document our journey through film.
We are so pleased to share our journey with you and hope to build a community of people who can support one another and grow together.
Lots of love
Naomi and Jack

Remarkable how much ya’ll have done, it’s so adorable! PLEASE be CAREFUL with candles and Lola! Cats tails n whiskers! Get glass globes/covers to protect from horrible accident. As new kitty Mom n Dad lots things learn like every new parent. Cats walk, jump, brush everywhere- open candles like that going end in tragedy, I know myself! Love watching your adventures!

Noticed that the snow is sliding off your roof, suggests that you are loosing heat through the roof and need to improve the insulation. As for the candles, when I first moved to Sweden I noticed that whenever we visited someone's house they first lit at least one candle and placed it on a coffee table and then put the coffee on. I wondered if they were expecting power cuts but eventually came to realise this is just a Swedish sign of welcome and wanting the house to feel cosy. 😊

older houses often have a sub optimal isolated roof, and as it's a real big job to isolate it, this is usually left for a bigger necesarry roof repair or recladding; which does not mean that jack shold not have a look into it

Yeah I concur, they should have someone come out there and have a look at their attic to check the status of the insulation and the inside of the roof. There might be some fairly simple and cheap actions they can take in order to increase the roofs insulation overall.

Right. I am not surprised; when they were ripping wallpaper from the ceiling, to expose the wooden panelling, it occurred to me that the wallpaper was likey laid on the ceiling to retain minimise heat loss via the roof.

Cats+candles=house fire. Does your village have fire apparatus? If not, how near is the nearest? Cats + candles = house fire. Do you have fire extinguishers? Smoke detectors, a must. Your home is lovely. You have done such a remarkable job! Your home is made from older materials. Materials quite friendly with combustion. Please don't allow your love of candles to cloud your judgement. Cats + candles = house fire.

Love your home! Please take out the hanging vine plants ASAP for the safety of your new kitty...Those look like Ivy and Ivy is EXTREMELY toxic to cats (liver/kidney failure). I recommend spider plants as a replacement because they hare hanging and are safe for her to nibble on as well! Much love 🥰❤️

Congratulations on your hard work. Some backstory about the chest @15:03. This is probably a "hope chest" (sv. Brudkista) which was traditionally given to unmarried women. They later brought this chest and its content to their new home, once they got married. It usually contained household items and linens (often woven by themselves, with an embroidered monogram as a finishing touch). If it's a brudkista you'll often find initials, and a year/date written somewhere on the chest. The date either represents the time of birth or time of marriage. Same model, but reinforced, was later used during the big emigration to US. Then often called "the emigrant trunk" (sv. Amerikakoffert/Amerikakista). About 25% of all Swedes (1.5M) decided to leave for a better life across the Atlantic between the years ~1860-1920. One of the main drivers was the discrimination that followed after the great famine 1867-1869. Even though some of these chests have made their way back home to Sweden, it's more likely to find them in the U.S.

You can train cats to stay off counters and away from plants. Just say No loud and she will eventually understand. Also get her her own shelf to hang out on. A scratch post is also great. Give her a treat when she obeys you. I have had cats all my life and 3 right now. The two black doors in your kitchen would be a nice spot to put a wood shelf above for your plants.

Just wanted to drop you a little note that you probably wouldn't want to install a wood burner in to your living room using the same chimney because the smoke from the fire below will come out of your new burner. Use to live in a house where the previous owner had done this and when we were having the chimney cleaned they condemned it and we needed to have it removed and sealed off so we could continue to use the fire below 👍 I believe you could do a wood burner in the corner and vent through the wall though

Love your videos. Thought about something on your house. I don't know if anyone has said that it seems like the roof lacks insulation because it seems like the heat goes out through it. Normally if the roof is adequately insulated the snow would remain on the roof until the sun melts it away but on your house it seems to slip off or melt away anyway. I don't know if this remark helps you in anyway but it's only my thoughts.... When you are driving up to the garage you shouldn't let the car spin its wheels, carefully let it slowly drag itself up :) when it starts spinning leave the throttle directly and don't rev up! We don't usually salt the driveway at all, only critical places like the steps of the outside stairs. Regarding the snowblower and that it takes the gravel and grass, when you get a bit more snow the ground will be the snow itself and cover both grass and gravel. Then you only will take the snow away. Anyone agrees with me - or disagrees? :) Love all of what you have done so far. Good luck in the future!!

We used to get plenty of snow down here too in the winters but the last few years has just been wet and rainy and boring. I want to ski and build snowmen and go skating on lakes as we used to when I was a kid. Damn global warming. I as a Brit, have lived in Sweden since 94 👍 Well done with the house, one thing I noticed at the end of the video was that your roof snow has melted and partially slid off. Look at the other houses in the area and nothing has moved. Just an observation as a bit more roof insulation would save you some money 👍👍

I love what the cottage looks like. The before and after is amazing! I find it difficult to choose my Fav painting, but if I had to choose I like the energy of jacks best. It could depict the creation of the universe before the stars and planets found their way home!😏

Apart from your gorgeous kitty, my favourite thing in your house is the old wall clock. And the stair rail! But it all looks so cosy and warm. Fantastic job both of you.

It became lovely, you must feel so lucky with all that furniture. You could make that bed and all the rest was there. Lola needs to be added to the title, Naomi, Jack, and Lola. I like the textured painting, the whites above makes it spacious. A warm and cozy home, well done.

Another brilliant video! What a wonderful thing for me to watch before I go off to sleep. Again your auntie from the United States is so incredibly proud of the both of you. Jack - you are a man of God. Provider, leader, servant. Thank you so much for all that you do to make a beautiful and comfortable life for your wife. Naomi - what a gift you are to the body of Christ. Your art is amazing. You have inspired me to dig deep into my creativity to see what lies there to bring forth. Please continue to honor and respect your husband. The two of you are a wonderful pair. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Keep up the amazing work. Blessings from North Carolina in the United States!

May I suggest removing the curtains ver the stove where you coverings over the shelves. Makes me nervous the little shelf curtains could catch fire from stove heat.. this is just a friendly tip. Oh I love the candles with wine bottles concept! Gonna do this here in my home in USA. I’m gonna call it Jack & Naomi candles. ❤️❤️ Your home is gorgeous 😻

Very well done. I have been a viewer gor about a week. So impressed with you two young people. Followed your story and will continue to do so. Naomi is a down to earth fun loving ebony princess and Jack is a perfect complementary partner to her zany slightly eccentric but loveable style. Bless you two courageous souls. Enjoy your youth, company and continued journey.
