I bought this painting for my living room as a sort of antidote to the winter blues compounded by covid-19 isolation measures. It brings a feeling of light and ease that was very much needed. Love it so much. Thank you for this video! ❤️

This hadn’t crossed my mind as a way to combat the winter blue, hope you are still enjoying it 😊

Awesome commentary, the filtering of the sunlight is what makes this painting one of my favourites. I can easily imagine myself being a part of the bal, feeling the warmth and the smell of spring along with the music and refreshing drinks after a long day of work.

Renoir approaches what it feels like to observe human lives. That's what I love about his work.

One of my favorite paintings of all time. You just feel cheerful looking at it. You feel the enjoyment of socializing as it must have been experienced in that moment long ago

having been to musee d'orsay and studied this pic a little, i have always been struck by the fleeting snapshot quality of it. to now know he did the entire canvas w/out previous pencil sketches blows my mind! how could he keep the dancers and those chatting in freeze-frame in his mind as he painted is mindboggling!

If art is teaching me anything, it's validating my unwillingness to choose. I like loose brushwork *and* finish. I like having a composition lead my eyes somewhere. *but* also enjoy resting my eyes in many parts of a canvas. I love that artists have gone their own way, allowing us to have a wide variety of experiences today.

That makes sense to me. Pretty soon after I began to study art, I no longer had a favorite artist, a favorite style, a favorite work of art. My admiration has broadened to include nearly every genre, style, and era. I am in awe of human creativity.

in 1876 they were no longer a Royal Academy of Art in France. It was a Republic, the third one, with Alphonse Thiers, its president.

This painting marked the high point of French impressionism and Renoir's art itself... His late nudes mark the low point. It was as if he'd forgotten how to paint the human figure. Almost certainly, arthritis played a major part in this decline.
