Renault Scenic E-Tech review - a brilliant all-rounder at a reasonable price

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Renault's Scenic recipe has been under the microscope for a couple of generations now, but in the move to electric, it's also picked up a far cooler SUV body. Richard Ingram finds out whether Renault's next big bet has paid off, and whether this is actually a family car you'd now WANT to buy, rather than just need to buy...

What a Brilliant presenter this guy is. Such a clear, well spoken person, with no up & downs in his voice, as so many presenters do. No over acting, just talking to us, it makes watching a review so much more enjoyable. 110/10

I really wish the Scenic name had been used for something more MPV like, given its iconic history and thye had used a new name for this SUV. Renault should have given us a better rival/alternative for the ID Buzz rather than the mass (literally) of SUV mainstream. It seems like a loss of opportunity and identity to me, as much as it is a good product.

The Megane, but better? They are completely different segments of car. If you don’t have kids, definitely go for the Megane, if you do, then the Scenic is a no brainer….

Did seem like there was too much road noise? May have been the mics. Frunk? Disappointing no 1 pedal drive. Will wait and see if it does appear OTA like he said, or whether it will be a mid cycle facelift type addition. A solid offering though.

There's no engine noise & just a gentle whrrr that is computer generated, so you will hear the outside more. Shame they haven't done a choice of computer generated 'engine' noises, like a Ferrari, or F1 car, big truck, in fact anything you can think of, or make yourself. It can't be hard to do.

to give you a response as I own one, you can simply adjust the regeneration with paddles on the steering wheel, so you can have it coast or regenerate hard (has 4 levels)

The only thing missing here are 7 seats and its a missed opportunity, since 7 seater EVs are still rare and all crazy expensive.

My wife and me sat in the car today for the first time. That "cocooned" feel is exactlx one of those things we both didn`t like - for us, it felt more like in a sort of a tank, like "walled up". We love our 17 year old Ford C-Max (next to a lot of other aspects) for its low window line. It makes the sense of space so airy. The solar bay roof is pretty pointless to us (we would prefer a PV module), as well as the electric hatch, considering the fact that after opening it electrically, you are invited to lift your luggage to the first floor. For the prize, we would have expected at least vehicle-to-home-readiness as standard. The way it is, there`s not much of an "innovative car" as the acronyme "SCENIC" suggests. But that`s it with complaining. The car has a halfway compact size, impressive space and legroom on all seats, and even if you can`t remove the rear seats, there`s plenty of room to load even pretty bulky furniture, in case of a relocation or when you come out of IKEA. This car beats a lot of much bigger vehicles. We definitely could live with that one. Maybe in a year or two. Until then, Renault should go on developing this car: => a PV module alternatively to the solar bay => the electric hatch should not be standard. Put it on the surcharge list => a lower loading sill => removable backseats => vehicle-to-home

There is only 1 benckmark to beat! If its able to beat the Tesla model Y On charging, consumption, compfort,... it can be a winner. Its beats it o range but has 87kW vs 72kw for a Tesla.

In our market, this car with the 87kWh battery is cheaper than the Mode Y with the small battery . So if one is interested in range, this is a better choice.

We are in 2024, the average price of a brand new car is 36 k€ so about £31k. So under £40k for a large family EV is not too much. And you will save on gas and maintenance. But you can get a Megane E-tech if the Scenic is too expansive for you. And I would rather buy a Tesla model 3, but not everybody like the style of Teslas so it is nice to have more choice. And you can buy a second hand Zoé for less than 10 k€ with less than 50 000 km...

  • @didierpuzenat7280

@@philipjames3526 All brand new cars are expansive. An average price of 36 k€ means that many cars around you are far more expansive, eg huge useless powerful diesel SUVs. It also means that such prices are not an issue at all for many people. So you buy depending on your needs, your taste, and your wallet. Before buying my model 3 in 2018, I tried a Zoé but the rear seats where to uncomfortable for 3 teenagers and I would have had to keep an ICE car for long trips since at this time no Zoé had fast charging. And at the time it was not possible to buy a second hand model 3 since I got one of the first in Europe. But if one day one of my children needs a car, it will probably be a sub 10 k€ second hand EV, eg a Zoé with the CCS option, it will be just perfect for everyday, and a bit changeling for long trips but who cares since when you need to go fast you can buy a high speed train ticket...
