One thing to check, there is a round red light on the dashboard, when you turn key to light dashboard, wait a bit and that light may start blinking faster. This means it doesnt recognize key radio sequence, immobilizer is on and will cut the fuel to the car. If it happens only sometimes, can be caused by coil next to ignition key, or the key circuit in the plastic part is weak. It is known that the keys circuit becomes weak after a few years. You have to take the key to a shop to clone your circuit, needs to read the code from old one. They also have some small bar, its a circuit in a chip, that can replace the entire old chip board in the key. Once cloned, your key should work, for a few years, anyway. For emergency, there is some sequence of buttons to press, that will bypass immobilizer, but works only once, you have to repeat when you start car again. It involves pressing central locking buttons in a certain sequence, you can google about kangoo immobilizer bypass. Even if you change ECU, it will still need pairing with key and still may not work if key radio is weak.

I have the same car as displayed on video here.. And its not starting because of Immobiliser problem. Which is the right diagnostic machine for Renault kangoo and how to register Immobiliser key and how to retrieve password for Immobiliser key?

I had the same problem with my Kangoo 2005. After 2 weeks of trail and error it has now run perfect for over a year :D For me it was the connection to the EGR valve.

What were your symptoms? Our Kangoo has intermittent starting - it only starts after cranking for a long time and with a puff of smoke, but sometimes just cranks without starting. The garage has failed to resolve the issue. My girlfriend's brother replaced the fuel filter a while back, which seemed to increase the start rate, but did not resolve the need to crank for a long time and now it's struggling to start more often again (perhaps due to cold weather). Any suggestions?

Hi my 56plate kangoo has the same symptoms. Mine seems to be worse in the winter. But it was suggested i change the injectors. Have you had any progress with yours? ​@neilrobinson8101

@@julianflower2194 I got the same problem again. But this time it was a groundcable near the battery that was brokend bearly held on. And next time it will happen im sure it will be an electrical isue. Check all the cables and connections in the engine room and fusebox. My best advice

How much ECU cost ?

It’s nearly always the injectors on the kangoo, worked on a lot of them with this starting problem and 9 out of ten times it’s the injectors

My old Renault Kangoo, has been sitting on the same place for 6 months, and now when I have my chance to restart it, it won't. There is sometimes a click . This sounds like the starter. Problem is, I cannot locate the starter on this low to the ground Renault kangoo. It is a 2002 1899cc diesel. Can anyone tell me where I might locate it after much patience and seeking it. starter motor is somewhere beneath the engine, as it needs to use gears to rotate the engine. Had similar issue with cable to start motor not good and had to take car to shop for a fix. You can't do it at home.

You can solve the problem by using a 12 volt 74 amp battery.

Mine will start 10% of the time on its own and 90% of the time with easy start. Once it’s been running then it usually starts every time for the rest of the day unless it’s a long drive. If it’s a long drive and I stop to get fuel or food, it makes a strange knocking noise and doesn’t work until I leave it for 10 minutes and spray it so it will work again. Any ideas please?!?!

Excellent. My kangoo has this EXACT problem. Camshaft & immob error code but everything checks out ok, but it will start only after 4 or 5 attempts. I will check the ECU contacts.

On my kangoo with the same problem it was the connection cable to the EGR valve. Had no problem since.

First, before starting engine, move key to line before on position, wait (it turns on fuel pump, injectors etc) and check if red dot light is on solid and then turns off. This is good. If it starts blinking fast, immobilizer is on and didn't recognize the key. There may be signal interference. What I did, was take off the plastic cover under the steering wheel, pull out the round antenna plastic over the ignition key barrel and used a thick electric wire to make a circle and placed it inside the antenna plastic. This makes the antenna have 3mm distance to be a bit over the key. Then placed everything back. Now key in ignition is more inside the antenna, signal distance is smaller and it detects key almost everytime. Suspect that having phone in pocket can also cause interference.

I have exactly the same issue with the same van, same age and 235k mileage. It doesn't start but when I spray it with easy start it will drive all day until I stop and have to spray it again and it works! If you find a fix please let me know :)

So yhen it's fuel pressure related and injectors fail causing drop OFF in fuel rail pressure thus starving compression ignition engine to noy have fuel 1. Fuel starve 2. ecu mote cut electric to fuel pump if low on pressure for safety ? causing low pressure and no pressure fuel pump switched off as is yhe case for an immobiliser fault where pump is cut off ...3. Bad fuel pump
