Renaud Capuçon plays Arvo Pärt: Spiegel im Spiegel (with pianist Guillaume Bellom)

Музыка

The mesmerizing Spiegel im Spiegel, which violinist Renaud Capuçon has recorded with pianist Guillaume Bellom, was written in the late 1970s and is aptly titled: "mirror in the mirror". As Renaud describes, "With all those long notes and repetitions, there’s a feeling of eternity. It’s like levitating for nine minutes." Discover more: w.lnk.to/ptrLY
In autumn 2021, Renaud Capuçon became Artistic Director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. His first album with the ensemble - and his first full-scale recording as a conductor (while also playing the violin in four of the eight pieces) - is devoted to the intricate, minimalist music of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

While I totally understand and accept the need to put ads at the beginning and end of videos, please note that I will NEVER use a product advertised or contribute to a request for help that interrupt the most sublime videos of classical music like this one . The wonderful atmosphere that composers and artists create is destroyed by a mean-spirited desire for money. Please consider eliminating the interruptions . Thank you!!

Never heard this spelled out before, but "Mirror in the mirror" starts with 2 notes, then 3, then 4, etc., one more reflection each pass, little more intensity each time. So structurally efficient, so simple yet so profound :)

Wow. I must admit that as much as I love this composer's works, this particular piece is not one of my favorites. It comes across as being too austere. In this performance, however, the piece takes on more feeling and color. For me, oftentimes the violin sounds thin and scraping. This violinist manages to bring out a much fuller tone than I'm used to hearing in this work. The pianist was also able to break free of the mechanical nature of this minimalist piece. Both performers did a great job. Kudos to the set designer for the sparse nature of the video. The basic black and white aesthetic added to the work where you would imagine it would add to its austerity.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so; For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery. Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally, And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

@@01lombana It is from a series of nineteen poems called “The Holy Sonnets” written by English poet John Donne - a central figure among the Metaphysical poets in the 17th century. They were published in 1633, two years after his death. The reason I’ve placed it here is because this musical piece was used in the 2001 film “Wit”. An amazing movie based on a play about a woman battling cancer, and how John Donnie’s piece here affects her profoundly.

The best moments for this piece are moments that represent a serene, inevitable transition. Death is the most obvious, but other things I think would fit well with it are things like playing through the ball drop on New Year's Eve, or packing a child's belongings on the day they move out.

What about giving commercial advertising space? Seems it is made in purpose, diapers for aged ladies, Sensodine tooth paste l use since l was a teenager, luxury things its not allowed to me, because we are always under terrorists attack, yachts & cruises, put them pay if this video is running multi national, world wide, we must be more supportive towards great performers, when only music seems to be the only salvation from despair & frustration and do not ask how much rage ok?
