I gathered a little background on Ren from his posts and an interview. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, and joints. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments and will have to be there for at least six months. Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, thyroid, adrenals, and bones. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times.

Hi jensrandolf that was very well said. I had something happen to me last year but I just needed treatment and it was taken care of. This guy however such a long list of things he is having to live with daily, the pain he is in daily and the fact he would be so in bed up to 23 hours a day. When one is in such a hard place and know there is no way out of it, the only other option is to learn to adapt. And if we can do that it can make the predicament at least somewhat easier to deal with. I think from memory that is what he meant when he said in his speech he learnt to relax and not fight it. I can't imagine being in this situation, music is certainly helping him get some good out of it. Maybe there is hope he can one day be free of it but we all wish him the very best.

Welcome to the tragic story of what I call the Ren Gouh rabbit hole. As we speak he is once again in the hospital in Canada. Listen to his trilogy, Jenny's tale, Screeches Tale and Violets Tale (IN THAT ORDER) or the songs Chaulk Outlines, Sick Boi, Money Game. Hell, listen to any Ren and you will be better for doing so. .

This was a very enjoyable reaction. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 3.5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than 10 years. Ren’s songs are generally recorded live. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of his songs resonate with me because he addresses struggles that I myself face every day. He plays multiple instruments, has amazing vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," the songs "Oh My Woman," "An Englishman in New York," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

Ditto my age and REN experience. There is hope for the future of music. This was an entirely new phenomena to me, somebody reached out through a screen and soothed my mind through a genius level song. His channel is so wide and deep, I think I’ll be there awhile just experiencing it all. I agree with all you said. There are many wonders in his catalogue. The more you look the more there is to find. There is also a fan club channel where there are clips of Ren songs (unreleased) and other back story stuff which you won’t find anywhere else. For example: a couple of clips from the filming of Sick Boi. It must be someone from his team who has the channel. You should check it out.

I'm six years older than you and love that I keep seeing you extolling Ren's genius in the comments section of reaction videos. I stumbled across Hi Ren a few days ago when a blues guitarist on my Farceboook friends list posted it. I've been alternating between immersing myself in his music and watching reaction videos ever since. I haven't had an artist hit me so hard since I first saw Jeff Lang play at my local pub in '97. (I've shot a few videos of him and upped them to my channel, if you're interested). My reaction to Jeff at the time is far, far surpassed by Ren's effect on me. Ren's talent is sky high and horizon wide. #stillgobsmacked

Ren and his band The Big Push well worth checking out. His music is so diverse from Rap to Rock to Reggae with dark and fun videos. Most videos are one take like this. They shot four takes and close-ups added. Samuel Perry-Falvey filmed it, Rens friend. The hospital chair they found on his Hunger video. The Pig mask represents greed. From the medical industry to capitalism to the music industry that lie to us.

Thank you for checking it out Marty, I'm glad to see you really enjoyed it! I liked how you described it and I'm sure there was probably more you wanted to say but unsure how. After I first watched the video I had to watch it about 6 more times until I had enough time to try to analyze the emotions it made me feel. Its still difficult to describe but at the same time it also feels very relatable, and that I completely comprehend and understand it.. 😌 Thats certainly creative genius at work!

Had a look at the past reactions (wow, surprised at the selection). I think his trilogy (The Tale of Jenny and Screech Full or individual videos for Jenny, Screech, Violet - needs to be in that order) is the best thing you can react to next.

I've watched dozens of reaction videos in the few days since I saw Hi Ren posted to Farcebook by a blues guitarist I know. I haven't seen anyone with this much talent _ever_ in my nearly sixty four years on this planet. It's going to take me a little while to get through all of his videos, but I'll do it many times over before very long.

Have to admit to viewing only a few of your reactions, and the one prior to this was Kevin Bloody Wilson's 'Hey Santa Claus'... 🫣...... 😂 Kev is part of the furniture here, an institution... Even so, the look on your face was "OMG Pranked!... Lemme outta here!". Perhaps we Aussies owe you for that. So here is the recompense. Just a FYI, auto-generated captions on KZread are incredibly bad. This video is a good example of how incorrect they are. It can really take away from the experience of a song when the words on the screen are not what the person is saying.

Welcome to the Rennaissance Marty Morris and 🙏 thank you ❤ for your empathetic and insightful Ren reaction! I liked 👍 it and subscribed 🔔. I was not troubled by the sun sneaking into your recording room 🙂. It looks like you stopped producing videos. Should you ever want to return to it, Ren has got an awesome back catalogue, and I'd be looking forward to you discovering it. So what do you want to see and hear next? A ballady thing w/guitar? 🎸🧑‍🎤🧑‍🎤💊⚪ Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live). Rap? 🐟&🍟🚢🌊 Genesis. Fun stuff? 👯👯👯👯❤🎶 Love Music. Raggae? 🎸🎸🎸🥁 The Big Push - I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop (red suspenders). Hard beats? 💉🐷💊 Sick Boi or 🦁🐷🦍 Animal Flow. Goofy madness? 🚲🐺🦍 Losing It! (FISHER Rap). Masterly storytelling horrendously sad stories? 🎸🎺🏥🔪 The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full 13 min version). Another great one-take storytelling short movie? 🚗🔫 Murderer or 💰🐚 Money Game! Deep thoughts? ☁ Dear God or Dominoes. Trippy electronica? 🎹💊 Diazepam. Souly-folksy Rap? "Do you Believe?". Bluesy? "Hold On!" or Everybody Drops. More singing? 🧑‍🎤 Humble. Have great fun! If you want to e-meet Ren, he is on Twitch at @renmakestwitch . Usually when there is a release of new songs, in 2023 he released 17 music videos, and for a time that happened roughly every other week. Often on a Thursday. Ren's new album 🎶💿🐷 Sick Boi has just come out. It is 🔥🔥🔥... check it out! And is doing really well in a number of countries. #ineverchasednumbersstatisticsorstars #hiren #ren

The way to describe that feeling you didn't know how to describe lies in all the emotions tied to feeling like your struggle is understood by someone. Sadly, feeling like our hardships have been truly understood on a meaningful level is something we humans rarely get to feel, so when we do as some of us do through this song, it brings up strong feelings. The first time I heard this song, it was sort of cathartic, and I felt elated and thankful that someone that understands put it into a piece of art like this.
