Stunned Silence is a completely acceptable response to this song. Ren suffered through over 8 years of undiagnosed Lyme Disease. With untreated Lyme disease, it not only damaged his body, but his brain as well. He is in Canada right now, getting treatments that will take 6 months or more.

It wasn’t the Lyme disease that messed his brain up as such, it was all the medication he got put on with all misdiagnosed treatments he got, he got medication for bipolar, anxiety, depression etc. and what that does to a well working brain is slowly destroying it. That’s why he also in his song sick boi is heard ( or he hears) a doctor say : if you take these pills now, you will get better fast but in a few days time you will feel even worse from the side effect of the deugs

No it isn't. People don't watch reaction videos, just to see zero reaction. This was woeful. The dude was okay to be fair, at least he did have a reaction. Even if your reaction is, well, that was a bag of shyte, at least it's an honest reaction.

If there is any question of his abilities, he recorded this live. He is mic'ed up and the guitar is plugged in...GENIUS

Absolutely right about it not being a “playlist song.” It’s a performance piece that bleeds; theater. It’s intimate and immediate. A live performance, for one, yet resonates with millions. But such a refreshing piece in an otherwise shallow medium. Perfect reaction vid.... we’re all crying with ya.

Same for me, just extraordinarily talented.

Used to follow Ren's band, The Big Push, for a while and was completely unaware of his solo work unitl I found out about "Hi Ren" 2 months ago. I instantly identified him as one of the so talented musicians of the band and wasn't overly surprised by his musical skills. But man, how they serve this piece of work! Everyone can relate to this in various ways. To me it was a real kick in the throat. And I don't have Lyme disease, and I'm an old bloke, and I'm French!! I've watched 50 reactions to this... song (?), looking to see how and where people would react, if they would react to the same chords, lyrics, pauses as I still do. Thanks for your genuine reaction. Also, thanks for not interrupting too many times. You have to be 100% listening for this one. Cheers!

I jumped in the hole and came across The Big Push and his busking videos and holy crap what talent!!

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

The "she sells sea shells" reference is from one of his other awesome songs "sea shells" it's about the evils of capitalism.

Your goosebumps got my sub! I found this when it first came out! It’s a very important song to me and honestly I’m happy to see how many others have accepted it and can relate!

The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will always be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a powerful piece of performance art that gives "broken" people HOPE. It's a beautifully raw musical masterpiece. Ren is special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking.

I'm a bit of a whore and will watch anyone who watches "Hi Ren" and His trilogy of terrifyingly tragic, terrifically told tales tiled The Tale of Jenny and Screech coz I love watching people become affected in the best way and become Ren fans before my eyes. I've never seen any artist like Ren.

For REN, this was truly his reality. Ren had misdiagnosed Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic. Second is dealing with the symptoms of Lyme neuroborreliosis, these neurological symptoms often leave patients feeling drained and debilitated as they begin losing their quality of life. Over time, patients find themselves unable to do the things they love as they struggle to get ahead of their progressing symptoms.

PLEASE READ---- The following was collated by Jens Randolff, so props to him for that....... Here is a little bit about Ren's background, in case you don't know already. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician born in Wales on March 29 1990. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,, i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service, a 1st responder thru 40 years of hurricanes in fla ,and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side, after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining what i was. trying to do to get help, and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances of bringing my ideas to the world are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of all that could be, but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard.. and my chances of succeeding alone are close to those of getting out of quicksand alone..
