Remy is often far too deep for his own material. While I don't really consider myself Libertarian (having been called a babykiller once too often on Reason), the comment really cuts to the quick when it comes to the presumption that gov't regulation will somehow solve a problem or right a wrong.

How so? Everyone knows what lottery is and what odds are. Zero relevance. Also, if you talk about FTX, main issue there was nod adhering to term of service which clearly stated that FTX can not touch funds deposited by users, and that's exactly what FTX did. So yeah, it is against regulations.

At first glance, when I saw that incredibly low percentage, I thought it was the odds of winning. Then I saw it was the percentage of the federal deficit and thought, "one billion of 30 trillion, HAS to be more of a percentage than what Remy lists here; his division is off by a factor of 10." Nope; he calculated correctly.

This aged like fine wine. Saw an interview with some SEC spokeswoman who literally said crypto wouldn't be so confusing if they'd just regulate more.

Remy is my favorite part of Reason TV. Yes, there are informative and or important discussions here as well, but the way he adds the humor just makes me smile every time!

One thing Remy missed is the fraud involved. Fraud is already illegal. FTX spent customers money for their own personal gain. This is illegal and no libertarian think it should be legal.

@@lonyo5377 I know in Texas the vast majority of Lotto tickets sold are in the poorest zip codes. Lotto tickets are overwhelmingly bought by people who really can't afford them. That is the point Remy is making.

Human stupidity curbed by magical paper and ink preventing human stupidity..... :)

It was i who actually started the investigation from FTC because i noticed that fyx was using their money and not mine when selling shares then buying them as soon as they rose within seconds . But nope, i started taking bunch of screen shots adding the numbers against the actual public market and found the my money wasn't being used. Ftx had been choosing to cover the costs of my buying and selling instead, so that I wasn't using my money making anything back! So i told my resources, because I'm actually a professional consumer issues human rights specialist 😉
