Removing the Freezer drawer on a Magtag Refrigerator

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ice was collecting underneath the bottom freezer door and now the drawer wasn't closing all the way. Ice was starting to form on the food. This is how I removed the drawer and removed the ice.

omg THANK YOU. We have this model and water kept pouring out on the floor. Today I went into my owner's manual to find out how to take the bloody drawers out and there was NOTHING in there. I had removed the top baskets but didn't know exactly how to remove the bottom ones UNTIL I found this. They are all removed now and the stupid frost-free freezer is now defrosting. Thank you thank you.

Hey Robert, big thanks. I’m married to a building contractor, you know that old saying, “the shoe makers wife goes shoeless “ 🤗 well, thank goodness for folks like you who can walk me through home fix it jobs. It would seem that the back panel of the freezer was congested with ice blockage. I took a hair drier to it for a better part of an hour, and easily collected an additional 4 cups of water. I also noticed pet hair that blocked the air filter....could be the source of the ice/frost build up. ** note, with only a butter knife and a monkey wrench I had to get creative . I couldn’t get the freezer door off, so I duck taped the moving parts of the baskets sliders, opened the fridge doors and lifted the freezer baskets out from the back and folded them forward....if that makes sense.with the fridge doors open it gave me 1/4 clearance. I’ll wait another hour to make sure everything is dry before I put it all back together and turn it on. My husband owes me a manicure.🤗 Again thanks for your help. Cheers, Colleen from Toronto 🇨🇦

My work around without removing the baskets or door!! I grabbed a chair and hair dryer and sat to the side with the freezer door open and let the hair dryer blow on hot close to the ice for a few minutes. Then I was able to wedge a longer metal bbq spatula under the ice & the inch thick slab of ice slid out on the floor almost in one solid piece! Closes & seals perfectly now. Thank you!!!!! I didn’t have to remove the baskets, door or anything! The plug will be another day.

Your video is very helpful, thank you ! - God knows why the manufacturers make it virtually impossible to clean things properly. Anyone here who does not want to go to this trouble, if you can "borrow" some room in a friend's freezer and use a camping cooler for the day-to-day stuff, you could just turn the darn thing off and let the blockage melt. The use of a bowl of extremely hot water, renewed every 30 mins in the drawer will speed up defrosting, or leave it open with warm air from a space fan heater blowing into it too.

Problem was not solved. The drain tube for the defrost circuit is frozen causing the defrosted water to drain into freezer and form the ice shelf eventually preventing the door from closing. Back freezer panel must be removed to melt ice in the drain trough and then pour hot water down drain tube to free up the line. Then the job is done and defrost system will evaporate water under fridge as it is designed.

I thought the same thing, Katherine, cuz I just wanted to remove the sliding bins to wash them....but I think you can glean that he used a flat-head screwdriver to release ONE side of the bins...and a pair of pliers to pinch the OTHER side (the one that has the larger clips). I probably could've figured that out but his video made me more brave to just tackle it.

This is behind the panel/ just right when you took everything off if you removed used a heater to unthaw everything while the units off it would of cleared the problem for good. This video 8 years later but for anyone wandering thats the next step. How to avoid dont over crowd the freezer.

More than likely the cause for the buildup is a plugged drain that drains into the drip pan under the fridge, access it by removing the panel on the back of the fridge. The drain is a rubber valve that has slits in it but closes too tightly and gets plugged, you need to cut the rubber valve so it does not plug again and cause water buildup from condensation.

I have this same model and have to do this every 6 months or so. There is one screw in the rail near the door on each side. Pull those two screws and the whole drawer assembly lifts off the rails. It can be a little difficult at first getting it back together, but gets easier. And for mine, unscrewing the white panel in the very back reveals ice everywhere. That ice causes vibration and noise for my model. Very annoying.

And as others have chimed in I would love to know why this was happening in the first place. From what I understand moisture is supposed to be channeled down into a tray under the fridge so that the heat from the motor can evaporate it. Something obviously is going wrong in that process.
