Following this project with interest! Did you just print out the detailed OWL card from an online image, or did you find a source for the real deal?

Thanks Dan! I purchased the small card, but the tonal range on it is very limited. I couldn’t find the larger one available for purchase online, so I downloaded an image of it and printed it on 65 lb cardstock with a 96 brightness. I printed a small one at the same time to compare to my small OWL card and as far as color tone it was almost perfect. In fact, the one I printed has a matte finish so compares to comic book paper much better than the real OWL Card, which has a glossy finish.

I’m really looking forward to the next episode. The issue he brought up with horizontal and vertical shrinking and expanding was very interesting. for the most part visually I’ve had success but the next wet clean I do going to go ahead and use your measurements and see if there’s any noticeable change using my methods

Thanks Larry, yes i think this is yet another detail to pay attention to if you want to acieve the best possible outcomes with our comic book conservation projects! I ordered an accurate 18" ruler so i can make these width measurements in the future.

There’s also natural wrinkling to the cover due to handling that contributes to variations in these measurements. Great job at removing the staples, Dr Paul. Easy does it wins the day. Great series!

True Peter. One of the reasons I used the triangular engineering ruler is to gently press the page down flat.

I know you arent accident prone Dr. Paul. But that blue tape had me nervous. Great job getting that staple out of there. Nice and easy for the W.

Thanks Travis! It’s true I don’t usually hold the tape over the book but I was trying to catch it all on camera for you!
