What a great book Dr. Paul. I was surprised that the pages didn't appear brittle to the touch. Do you ever find pages too brittle to handle. If so, is that something you can reverse. I will be tuned in to this series. Great stuff. Love to see these old books. Thanks for all you do for the community

Hi Travis thank you for the kind words. This cover may be brittle, it’s difficult to tell. The way that right edge of the front cover appears chipped rather than torn is sometimes an indication of brittle paper. Brittleness can be improved but generally not completely reversed. We’ll go into reducing some of the effects of aging and damage to this cover in this series so stay tuned. 👍🏽

@Dr.PaulKosnik I will be very interested to see that work. I have recently started collecting silver age flash books and am finding myself with a fair amount of brittle pages. Some pieces broke off just page counting one. I have not collected silver age D.C before, only marvel and hadn't experienced this. Unsure if the companies use different paper, or it's just my luck. Ideally I would examine in person and avoid this. However not much available at market where I live locally. Covers looked really good and not brown. Just interior pages. So odd. Tuned in.

I’m really looking forward to watching you go through this project. It’s very similar to some of the work I’m doing right now. These golden age brittle covers are so delicate that if you even look at it wrong pieces fall off onto your workspace. Very excited to see you go throughthis book😊

I can't wait to see how you handle that right edge of the front cover. That has been one of my biggest challenges in the few projects I've done. Most recently the Jonny Quest book. I will be following this project closely as this book appears to be in rougher shape than other recent books you've worked on. Jerry would totally leaf cast it but I want to see how you handle it not leaf casting. Good luck with the project!

$150 is a great deal, Dr Paul. It will look so much better when you’re done with it. And then there’s sending it to CGC. Gonna be an enjoyable series!

I was surprised when you mentioned that Giacoia penciled the entire JSA story for this issue; currently the GCD credits have him on Parts 1 & 2 only, with Peddy & Sachs drawing the remaining half or so. Also, the Johnny Peril art has been attributed to Howard Purcell, not Peddy. Thanks for showing us the pages.

Jim, thanks for stopping by and commenting, i appreciate the correction. I do more thorough research in my unboxings, but did just a cursory view of the GCD data for this one before staring the conservation project. Thank you for setting the record straight!

Try using a 1% solution of sodium Citrate. Acts as ph buffer and chelator.

Hey Richard I appreciate the suggestion. Any reason sodium citrate would be better than calcium hydroxide as a buffer?
