Removing room echo with Audition, Premiere Pro + Unveil
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Room echo is that familiar audio problem that plagues DSLR shooters causing the production quality to sound less than spectacular. Fortunately, Adobe Audition has some great tools to reduce that problem. Thanks to Durin Gleaves from Adobe for his guidance on this tutorial.
To really blow your mind, we've included a tutorial on Zynaptiq Unveil that completely eliminates all room echo and it is absolutely remarkable.
Here is a great, in-depth tutorial by Production Bytes on using Unveil

I've just come back to this video again for a new project. You've got an excellent way of putting things across which is info rich yet straight to the point all without being overly technical or patronising. Hope your channel grows.

Thanks Grant.
This video is very crisp, clean and intuitive. I hate the videos that are a poor representation of what you are trying to do (ex if you want crisp sound and the sound quality on the tutorial is rough at best, it is a major turn away!) Thank you so much for posting. It's very clear you know what you are doing. ;)

Hi Curtis, I follow ur videos and learnt a lot of things... nice to see ur comment here ...:)
Great video! Just for clarification: room tone and room echo are two different things. Room tone is the natural sound of the room picked up by the microphone when no one is speaking. Room echo is the amount of reflection that occurs due to the surfaces in the room which affects the sound a subject emits (speaking, singing, etc. in a church vs a sound recording booth).

+TestPage - I am going to assume that you may not understand that using pirated (cracked) software is illegal. I am closely connected with the wonderful people at Adobe so asking me how to use pirated software is like asking a bank teller for a bag to put stolen money in! Seriously, do not use pirated software! Thousands of brilliantly talented people worked very hard to produce the tools we use today so I ask that you respect that by paying for any and all software that you use. Wouldn't you expect to be paid for your hard work?
@MiikaWasHere

VideoRevealed Pirating sucks. I've spent a lot of money buying plug-ins & applications to help my video production but 400$ for app like UNVEIL is a huge price. Cant imagine people seeing that as a good investment. For an example the industry standard (title given by JJ Abrams himself) 3D tracker SynthEyes costs only bit more than UNVEIL.
Cool tutorial. Im a sound engineer and i work daily with audio. Just to add a note, what is labeled (and you referred) as Q is what we call resonance. Both terms are perfectly correct but i thought you would like to know. Keep the great tutorials. Cheers

Thanks for the tip and happy audio editing! Just curious if you've used any Slate Digital plug-ins? I use them for my music projects and they've changed my world completely - my digital studio sound analog now!
@fernandofragoso4118
7 жыл бұрын
I've tried them already and they're pretty good. But actually as a plugin for audio processing i only use Izotope Ozone as Excitor and everything else is Analog. But i might swap some of the analog equipment for software due to the need of realtime export which is time consuming.
Thank you for this video, it's beena huge insight for me. I'm a video editor by day but I'm constantly feeling more and more pressure to also know the audio side, to at least be able to tidy up dialogue. This is the only channel I can find which releases consistantly high quality videos. All the info is there, spoken very enthusiastically using easily digestable language. I hope you're getting the support you need to keep the channel running and thank you again.

Thanks for your kind words. Many editors are feeling the same thing and I see that all the time when I train editors at some of the largest media companies. Editors are wearing many hats and dealing with shorter turnarounds. The good thing is, Adobe has been listening and you are going to be so happy with what they're doing to make audio even easier in future versions of Premiere Pro.
Wow... Your technique using the parametric equalizer worked great for me. I wasn't dealing with the kind of extreme reverb you used in your demonstration, so it ended up working even better than I expected for what I needed. In the past, I tried using a second microphone away from the main to purposely pick up the reverb and then invert it to try cancelling it out, but couldn't hear a difference. Your method worked. THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for the tutorial. I had to fall back on my NTG3 direct into my camera, and this was a huge help. I generally record a Que audio DA12 directly into ProTools via UA Apollo and just use the NTG3 as a scratch track to align audio, but this time I had to use it for production. This tutorial was really helpful - always learning!

Appreciate your series, Colin. Your focus on explaining/demonstrating a single topic in each video helps me concentrate on that discrete issue I’m trying to master or improve upon. It’s great in this segment that you show two ways to attack room noise; one using built-in Adobe features, and then the paid plugin “Unveil”. Viewers might like to know that the 3rd party plug-in asks for a price of US$360 plus tax, which is pretty pricey. Would those hard-working developers be able to sell a hundred copies at, say, 36 bucks more easily than ten at 360? Clearly that’s their business (literally). Again, thanks for all the useful videos you share with us. Great stuff!
