I was totally surprised when I heard the guest talking in Estonian :D Small world. I'm currently in Australia and was looking how to edit podcasts faster, pleasant surprise it was.
Thank you so much for the autogate tutorial. OMG, this will save me hours. I've recorded 10 episodes of my podcast and only managed to get through manually editing 3 of them, given the amount of time needed to manually drop volume etc!
This is fantastic -- thank you so much for this valuable information! Subbed.
Wonderfully helpful! Thank you so much for the tutorial.
This is exactly what I was trying to figure out by myself (didn’t know how to search it), and now this video appears on my KZread home screen... thanks for doing it
Thank you so much for this tip, Mike! This is gonna save hours!

@@MikeRussell Hi mike, I have watched many of your video's this is the most valuable one for me yet! Thanks a lot!! I am working with 3 mics in one room as a beginner recorder & editor with minimal equipment so anything along the lines of group recordings would help me out! Audition is such a great software but there is just so much I don't know about it like this, why don't they make it more clear Lol
You just saved my life man! I just switched over to a multi-track recorder and was seriously clueless on how I was supposed to edit all the mic bleed. The deleting silence tip is the cherry on top

How do you have your mics set up? Try placing them facing back to back so you sit opposite the other person as this may also help reduce mic bleed at source.

I'm a video producer and I've always felt I could get more out of Audition since I'm not really a sound guy. To make matters more interesting, I've been asked to produce a podcast so I've had to dive head first into Audition. In general, your channel has been a Godsend, but after my first more-or-less real world 3-mic test (yes in English but with my kids as unenthusiastic 'guests') I found these two very problems. Great to wake up this morning to a notification to this on-point tutorial. Thank you! Oh, and coffee for me, please.

Thank you for yet another great video. One thing I found and thought I would mention is that, under settings, there is an option to remove or shorten silences. I have found that sometimes shortening has a better end result than deleting. Again, thanks so much for sharing all this great info!

Mike, great video. I'm a relative novice and testing Audition. Learned a lot from you. One question about your process here. On my podcast, I mix down separate tracks to a single mono file. Instead of applying delete silence feature to polywave files, wouldn't it just make more sense for me to mix down the tracks and apply the delete silence feature to the mono track? Is there a disadvantage to doing it that way?
That was a wonderful tutorial.

Thank you Mike! This was really helpful! I was wondering if you can only use the polywave to edit podcasts? Seems like it's much easier to work with rather than a multi-track.
@MikeRussell
4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't advice it as it is destructive (meaning you're making edits direct to the audio file that cannot be undone). Backup your audio, do this process, then do the rest non-destructively in multitrack. Someone already mentioned you could actually setup gates in multitrack too.
I’m literally crying right now 😭😭😭 the most stressful and difficult part of editing our podcast!!! Sometimes we record for 4-5 hours and going through breaking out silences one at a time would take me a full day. This is amazing thank you!!!!
@MikeRussell
2 жыл бұрын
👌
Nice work :) Didn't know about the polywave track. Curious to hear how the deleted silences sound; obviously would be impacted by settings and all. I generally avoid using a gate for the silences because it wants to start triggering a little bit on breaths where they inhale but it's not quite enough to trigger the gate but it's halfway getting cut out and sounds awkward. Then lightening up how aggressive it is just ends up leaving a little too much. Will try again with some of your tips from this video.
@MikeRussell
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thom. You're right that it's a fine art to setup a gate and it does crush those breaths for sure!
That is briliant!

Thanks for the walkthrough, Mike! Question: How do you tame the myriad of tracks the Rodecaster Pro creates? I used it for a while, but the track-mess it creates had me switch back to single-track, which is the worst for editing...
