Removing nails from RV Bellypan for access to run wires for the RV Electrical System Upgrade Project

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So that I can run the wires for our electrical system upgrade in our trailer I need to drop the plastic bellypan down. But the manufacture was kind as to nail the bellypan in place, go figure. So here is how I was able to remove the nails without destroying the plastic bellypan.
Also HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. I have to take mine down to hunt a water leak. I Didn't realize they were nails. This will save me a ton of time!

OMG! Thank you so much. I was searching and found you. So helpful. The manufacture really should be embarrassed for using these fasteners. I'll be pulling these out and replacing them just encase I need to access this area in the future. Again big thank you for BC Canada!

Thank you! I have to run battery monitor and some other wiring. I had no idea if those were rivets or screws. This helps.

Thanks so much! That was genius - using the drill's chuck area! I have pull our underbelly down for wiring (lithium & inverter install project) and was dreading it because of the same fasteners as your's.

Hell yeah man awesome trick with the screw gun and nail tip. With needle nose pliers and a cordless screw gun wasn't that difficult just a little time consuming. You saved me at least 2 hrs of work. Thank you sir! Wish I could buy you a 12 pack.

Great tips, thanks for posting this. I’m about to tear into mine to run wires and wasn’t sure how hard those nails were going to be. I’ll definitely be using some of these techniques!

I did the same thing and use the hammer drill function on my half-inch cordless drill. The hammer and action really helped loosen those nails. So far I haven’t found a screw that doesn’t snap off when trying to self tap. Any ideas? This is a great video however, I think that’s the most important aspect is how do you put it all back together again. I’m going to try some things and if I come up with a great idea, I’ll post it.

Thanks for the video. I’ll be dropping the underbelly on mine for the same reason. Relocating the battery/cables from the tongue to under the bed when upgrading to lithium. It looks like I’m fortunate that the cabling will be the correct length too! Thanks again for the video!

I need access for the same reason. Unfortunately my rivets punch through on the inside of the frame underneath the corrugation where I can’t access. 😢 Managed to get some out with a hammer and chisel and only on has come out with a socket and one snapped off which is the ONLY time you can be happy about something snapping off 😅. I may try using the teeth of the drill and see what happens. Needless to say if I ever have to remove it again, it will be much easier!

I've used your idea in the past. As an added bonus: Use corroplast tape for repairs on that plastic board. Works best. Thanks for your time

I enjoyed your video and all the demonstration you did. Really helps. I pried off a couple nails and it worked fine but I think your method is better and especially if I have to remove the nails another time. I especially thought your tip of using a drill chuck to fit the nail head is smart. I still don't know why the mfg. put that black plastic on the nail heads. Thanks again for a great video.

Our belly pans are attached via rivets. I wish they were nails like yours. It is suprising the differences in our 2018 202RD and yours.

Ours is a 2018 also, interesting that they would be rivets. Rivets are very easy to remove. Take a drill bit and slowly start drilling the head of the rivet. When it falls off stop and then use a pinch and hammer to finish removing the rest of the rivet. If the center pin is proud of the rivet head use the punch and drive it into the rivet before you drill the head. Hope this helps.
