Removing Fuel Tank on Datsun 280Z

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally got around to removing the fuel tank on my 1978 Datsun 280Z. The car sat for a while, so the fuel tank had quite a bit of rust particles in it.

I am in the process of refurbishing my gas tank as well. There are products to clean the tank and coat it… not sure the outcome or expense. Thank you for your video, it gives me confidence that I can do this myself! Wish me luck! This has turned in to a labor of love!

I have a '77 that same color that needs to have the tank cleaned. I was hoping to see how to disconnect all the vent hoses from the top of the tank. But you skipped that part!

Restoration For Beginners We have a follow up video to this one to upload, in the coming weeks. After attempting to clean the tank and not getting it as clean I wanted. I took the tank to a radiator shop, who soaked it in a hot tank and coated the inside. I then repainted the outside of the tank and it's ready to go back in the car, after we clean out the fuel lines.

I only see this video on your channel ,where do I find more on the Z ??? Great to see a couple bringing a Japanese Ferrari back to life. I'm the opposite I'm one person restoring two Datsun Z.at once. Double the Pleasure. I took out the trunk floor and put a flat ribbed panel and fitting 57 Chevy NEW gas tank. Cause I'm running carbs on both S30's.

It is possible to get the car running without the tank in it , gas can on a chair with 5 ft. Of hose fed into the pump.

Just pulled my 78 280z tank. What did you guys end up doing? Ive been flushing mine with vinegar for a week. No radiator shops want to coat it. Replacements im sure wont fit or are to ecpensive. Any info will help and be appreciated.

+harvey deal After flushing mine a lot, I realized I couldn't get it clear of all the tarnish, from the old gas. I asked around and found a radiator shop, 2 hours away, that would acid soak the tank and coat the inside. I looked into a replacement tank and they are near impossible to find. So I took the tank to the radiator shop. They had it for a week and had to hot tank soak it, to get it clean. There are products out there where you can coat it yourself, POR 15 has a system. My husband has successfully used that system, on a tank he cut apart and welded back together. The radiator shop was the easy solution for my Z tank. I hope you find a good solution for yours!

It cost to much money to use the original fuel tanks etc. I've got a 240z and I'm able to fit in a 20 gallon fuel cell. Only cost me $123 on eBay with free delivery. I did a clean job and drilled out spot welds of the tire well.

Get rid of the fuel injection crap. Buy a Megasquirt fuel injection system. Put LS1 coil packs on for replacement of crap stock ones. Car will purr like a kitten.

+Do it in a Datsun That is basically our plan. We have an Electromotive Tec3 that we have considered using, but the megasquirt seems like an easier option, so we are leaning that way.
