Removing an inflated battery from a JBL Flip 4 speaker
Комедия
My JBL Flip 4 speaker started making crackling noise, would turn off automatically and power would drain quickly after about 2 years of use. From my research, I suspected the lithium ion battery was to blame, so I ordered a replacement off of Amazon.
Once I took apart the housing, thanks to other guides on KZread, I discovered the battery couldn’t be removed by tugging on the attached cable, because it had become inflated and wedged tightly in its slot. I removed the end cap from the opposite side of the speaker, unscrewed the charging port and detached a power ribbon cable to make enough room to push the battery out with a blunt tool.
If you attempt this, be aware that inflated lithium ion batteries are very dangerous! If punctured, it can combust violently. Always take safety precautions by working in a safe environment and use the right tools.

I’m here, so obviously this is currently also my situation. Seriously, I was about to chuck the thing into the garbage and get my replacement battery refunded. You’re my hero!
I ripped off the battery plug and found this video that helped me solve the issue! Thanks!

Where did you get the new batteries plz share the link. Thanks in advance
I had the same problem, this video saved my day. Thank you so much for posting this!
This was the confirmation I needed to get the little bloater out. Super helpful, thanks for sparing me from a lot of grief
I'm at the point of having to do this. I'm really surprised that there hasn't been a lawsuit against JBL for not providing a simpler way of replacing the battery. I've got mine torn all apart and am at the stage of doing this. Thank you for showing this.

I needed this.. thank you for the disassembly directions. I was afraid to go at it alone. Great video!
Dude! Thank you for this video. I was struggling for an hour and then i found your video. Used an Allen key like you. Worked like a charm.
Thank you so much!!!! I was about to give up and with your video I was able to take that damn think out! My JBL is alive again rsrsrs
Thanks man! Thought I'd run out of options... I really didn't want to try anything that would have damaged the battery, and finding this vid gave me hope... I had to cut some insulation tape from the large hole where I could see the battery, but then with some brute force it squeezed out... Phew!
Very good tutorial, I got stuck trying to extract the original battery but after watching your video I was able to extract it, don't believe the tutorials that show how to easily open and remove the battery.
This video did the trick for me, thank you! I was about to give up!
Thank you very much. Couldn't have done it without this video!!!!
Thanks very much. 👍Tried using the short end of an allenkey but had no luck as there was too much spring. So took a chance with the blunt end of a large drill bit. The battery was swollen to twice the width of the original so it took 30 or 40 minutes of ever increasing blows with a hammer to get it out. Finally worked - but what a mission. From now on periodic maintenance checks on the battery to make sure it doesn't get so swollen before I try to replace it.
Genius bro. Thanks. It was stuck and I was like damn I'll have to buy a new one. You saved my money
You sir are a legend! Thank you for making this video!
This just happened to me and I thank you for posting this magic pill.
Thanks so much for this video, it saved my flip, I was about to chunk it as a loss.👍👍👍👍
I tried pulling the original battery out from my JBL flip 4 to replace it. I tried pulling slowly, then a little harder then a little more but the battery won't come out. I wasted frustrated one hour on that and finally pulled really hard to pull out only the wire connected to the battery. Now there was nothing left other than to dump the speaker with the fucking stuck battery into the Trash. I somehow thought that I should give a last try and check videos on getting stuck JBL flip 4 battery out and I saw there was this video. I watched it and got rid of the stuck battery in a minute. This video is a life saver for people like me. Unfortunately I messed up with a speaker drum and got on it a scratch while dealing with the stuck battery in frustrated and furious mood🤣.
It worked finally after 6months, thank you
worked like a champ! pushed right out - thx!
This is very useful. Thanks, man.
Thanks mate. The comments under every other video didnt really help. Screwing an old inflated battery does not Sound like an option to me.
this video was a huge help! super like! gonna recommended in some threads
I had the same issues - the battery would not come out. Mine was slightly different but I was able to push it out from the back and I'm back in business! Thanks for the advice!
You save my flip 4💪 thank you!🙏
Thank you! I was in the same situation unfortunately my hex screw was to big but I managed to get out using the back of a pencil on the battery and a hammer to the point
Thanks, very usefull mate!

Hey man, thanks for the video. It really helped, but now I can't seem to plug the white cable thing (with the blue end) back in. any tips?

Great! Thanks, worked
Thank you so much!! This worked for me!!
Danke! I used a pencil to push it out 1cm, and then I pulled it from the other side with tools.
It worked! Thank you!
How did you remove the speak or end cap? Mine is not a twist like most are on other videos
Very helpful thank you
Hi sir,,asking me to about my jbl flip 4,,new battery replacement,,while turning ON,ok w/indicator display but at turn OFF,,OK but bettery indicator always ON,what is the prblem sir,,thank you sir in advance.
Well boys, we did it, jbl flip 4 is no more!
I also dripped in some acetone and the glue holding it came loose easier. The battery i have looks nasty bloated
you are my hero
Thank you, Iam stuck with the screws
Bryson, mine caught on fire too! Damn near caught my dining room table on fire too! Apparently, I must have opened the battery case with my Allen wrench. I would HIGHLY suggest using an unsharpened end of a new #2 pencil instead of anything metal!!! 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
thank youuu!!!!!
mine caught in a big fire
I am from India and mu speaker is complaint and I need to buy a new one where do I get
I've followed your advice but the battery still seems stuck. When I push it from the other side it doesn't budge. I'm using a thicker tool than you did but I'm really worried it'll explode.. did yours slide out fairly easily?

I unplugged the connection to move the charging port out of the way. With a ton of effort I pushed the battery out. When I tried to plug the connection back in, I broke the two tiny connectors!! UGH!!! I guess that's that!😡
any risk of the battery catching fire or exploding if you pry it too hard?

a lot. especially if its bloated. make sure to wear eye and hand protection, be in a ventilated area etc.
Thank you still stok the battery is jam
I also recommend a regular pencil, its backside is perfect for this
I still can’t get mine out it’s melted
I didnt have that patience. Just tossed that shit into the garbage. Battery went dead after 1 year of use. A joke.
