The first time I changed a tie rod I took a 2 lb sledge hammer and beat it out the same way he did and the whole time I'm thinking my neighbors looking at me like I'm crazy taking a hammer to my suspension. Hell, you do what you have to do to get things done.

Worked second go just hold the tie rod to put some weight on it then wack the hub thing and it pops out

You cant use this method on an aluminum steering knuckle .

Been hammering on a new tie rod I just installed 3 hrs ago...and the thing is stuck.

After removing the castle nut, put it back on so the castle is facing inwards. Thread it enough so the nut's on well but not too much that there's thread protruding through. Then hit the nut with a hammer.

This is a terrible idea and a great way to get your castle nut stuck on the tie rod

That might not work too well if your suspension is made out of aluminum like mine is.

Unless it’s pitman arm where you can’t get a hammer in there

I've been doing this for an hour on my 97 civic lower control arm and it won't work. Saw someone do it in a video with the same car only took two hits. I'm doing it just like him. Tried wd40. Might have to just hit the pickle fork... Damn...

if u flip the castle nut around n level it almost level with the top of the stud, i mean like 50 thousandths or the width of the average credit card, whiches probably about half that actually, ok-the point is that ur hopefully hit mostly the nut but also transfer some of the force to the stud also so all the force isnt on the nut and therefor threads, iv honestly never had problems with "pushing" threads when beating on them, other than when it jus didnt matter n shit was bein stubborn anyway since then iv got smart n started lookin for just about any kinda press or puller n absolutely nothin can put up a fight anymore :p ...as far as pullin stuff off lol lets b clear u have got to keep ur threads clean n greased tho! the grease collects the really abrasive metal dust n quite literally turns to heavy cutting compound and ur constantly runnin it with high force n pressure basically machining the surfaces down and creating alot of play in the tool, or the threads jus get mangled from all the use and abuse iv always loved takin apart n servicin my stuff tho, its nice to get in there n tighten everything up clean up connections blow out the cobwebs new grease oil take 30 seconds to spray it a little rubbin alcohol wipe it off then take another 30 seconds to spray it, its really enjoyabe n satisfying stuff u dont have to take 400 million years n lay out everything perfect wipe down every thread, this stuff goes fast, its not a tool refurbish its a service or maintenance, technically service but... jesus i jus went n deleted a bunch of stuff so this wasnt a dam book n here it is... worse than before i give up.. i type too dam fast :p it all jus flows

You can't do that on Porsche Aluminium parts though.. ?

Tried this on a pitman arm for centre link removal. The bastard won't budge. 3lb or 4lb hammer.... no movement.

Hammered like crazy and it didn’t come out. Pickle fork didn’t take it out. Tried moving the steering wheel side to side and it didn’t loosen. Fuck tie rods and screw this trick I’m gonna be stuck in an autozone parking lot

Please, please help!!! We were in an accident, the car hit our right front tire and above our right front tire. At the time, the body shop said the "alignment was fine" and replaced the tire. This was in October. This month, there is a "squelching" sound when I turn the steering wheel and a "squelching" sound (like a dog toy), when we go over bumps or hit potholes. I was told by Ford that it was the suspension. A small garage we went to, told me that "it was probably the tie rods" and he said he would put a small hole in the "boot" and inserted a straw and filled it with lubricant. I told him I did not want this, but he did it anyway. It did not make the noise go away, but now I am concerned about what damage this may do---after the fact, I did some more reading and I found out this is not good at all. He also told me my tie rod was bad, and showed me how the front wheel would not move. I found out that this is a good thing for the wheel not to have a lot of play. Can you respond about all of this, please????
