Removal of ‘Ruby Bridges’ film from Pinellas school sparks outrage

The Disney movie “Ruby Bridges,” which tells the tale of a 6-year-old who integrated New Orleans schools in the 1960s, has been a staple of Pinellas County Black History Month lessons for years.
It never caused a stir until this year, as parents across Florida exert increased powers to question what children can see and read in schools.
A North Shore Elementary parent who would not allow her child to watch the film when it was shown in early March later complained that it wasn’t appropriate for second graders. In a formal challenge dated March 6, Emily Conklin wrote that the use of racial slurs and scenes of white people threatening Ruby as she entered a school might result in students learning that white people hate Black people.

St Pete has changed. something creepy going on there now. I grew up there and never saw anything like they got going now. I didn't see the disney movie but I did see the news reels and pictures and documents from the time. Those white looking ppl were not white. They showed the blonde girl to make them look whiter but true white ppl don't have blonde babies that turn dark when they are older. I don't mean brown or light brown. Its also not a thing with extra light skinned blacks. its a thing with non white - white ppl who think they are being put back in their place by real white ppl. If u can't tell a white person by looking at them, then look at their religion and the home country of their religion.

@@hithere748 The story took place in New Orleans and has now come full circle considering they took their privileges and educated their own ppl to be slave labor. They created a system so racist even they aren't safe in it. The history is now used to back a race of people to abuse and enslave their own kind while blaming the ppl from the past.

But why was it removed after one parent complained, I thought you would need majority complaints to review a film, especially based on a person experiencing real and tangible things that were happening at that.

The whole movie is based on true historic events dealing with America's racism issues. Blacks have been complaining about this stuff since y'all kidnapped us, now racist whites wanna complain when this stuff is still happening. Not the same at all

The hell? What's so wrong about a movie detailing the struggles of a girl integrating schools? You are really comparing school integration with rape? Fucking really?!?!?!?

I would like to know more than the blurry words are trying to tell me. Is it clandestinely pushing some other agenda with or without fabricated historical details or dialogue? I would not hold that above movies on these topics. Apparently, Woman King had some iffy details and the Mayans were committing human sacrifices, but the Spanish were made the worst villains in Wakanda Forever. I think we should see this film and hear both sides.

if you want to "hear both sids to this" all you have to do is type in ruby bridges, theres no agenda its literal FACTUAL history & people cant handle the truth . The little girl is STILL ALIVE & tells her story everywhere, the white teacher who taught her is STILL ALIVE & confirms everything, the last us marshal who escorted her died in 2017 but theres interviews with him & ruby bridges confirming everything as well, theres pictures of white people holding a casket with a black babydoll in it as shes, a 6yr old is walking into school. is learning about the holocaust an agenda our is it just factual history that has to be learned so it wont happen again? exactly. even if you think this movie has little historical facts, you will quickly find out nothing about this movie is fake our has an agenda, its just true history... . & it wasent like it happned 100's of yrs ago, this was the 60's, think about that

You interpreted Wakanda Forever all wrong. There’s so much depth to this topic white ppl have no chance at understanding. You could read 1000 book reports, but the struggle of being black in the USA is something you can never fully understand or grasp unless you’ve personally been through it (same applies for any trauma.) Now you’re grasping at straws thinking you’re onto something. I will admit the historical accuracy in WF is sketchy but that’s cause Disneys ignored the timeline to push their lazy ass diversity bullshit. You’d love for it that be the case here, but instead of looking into it for yourself you’d rather invite conflict and confusion wherever you can
