An old elevator chute like the used in corn cribs works really well, especially if you park an old barge wagon underneath to dump into!
Daddy Cornstar, I know it must be really tough on you to see things change in your Dad's old house and it must bring back a lot of memories. I just wanted to say that the best way to honor your Dad is to look back at the times you spent together with love and respect and most of all laughter. I lost my Dad too and I try to think of him as just a thought away from me all the time. Cole's going to do a great job and he'll pass it down to his kids. That would have really made your Dad happy.

I agree, I live in the same town some of my ancestors settled in over 150 years ago, and in fact I only live 15 km from where they built their house and started farming. I personally will never understand people that move away from their family and roots
Cole this is the best your dad has done holding and talking to the camera, his tone how he talked about his memories... He has grown and improved as an on camera personally, and deserves credit.
Plaster/lathe, knob and tube... you practically living in a museum... love all the wood moldings and frames, glad you're gonna save those

Some folks in more recent videos, like to tease Cole, saying that he doesn’t work as hard as Justin or Roman, NOT SO! Early on, it was only him.
Can’t wait for the wiring to get done. That electrical is long overdue for a upgrade! Safety First!
Sanding and re staining all that wood is a huge project. I’d think about leaving the flaws and just cleaning it up properly. You’d hate to loose the character of all the beautiful wood, it matches the spirit of the house..
Hey Cole, the master bedroom should be in the corner room. That way you have windows bringing in natural light from multiple directions. Glad to hear you want to reuse the old wood. Its classic, part of your family history and you'll never find anything like it again.
Get a thickness measurement of the plaster and include the lath in the measurement to know the thickness of the drywall needed so all your trim pieces fit.

Daddy Cornstar I think it's bitter sweet that you get to return to your childhood home anytime you want. Mine was torn down. It was always home from the day I was born. My old hot pink room was still there when it was torn down. It's nice that Cole has it now.❤
DC what beautiful memories you must have. I’m sure the memories for Cole and his children will be as lovely.
You could see the emotion on DC's face as he was walking through the house. You're making him proud Cole, the house is going to be something the entire family will love.
The mouldong at the top of the wall is called picture mold, to hold hooks for wire to old fashion pictures.

If nothing else, your grandfather had exquisite taste in woodwork. I appreciate your efforts to preserve as much as you can. It gives the house its character. Personally, I think you should take what space is needed to make a useful master bath, but prioritize on the walk-in closet.
Really felt Daddy Cornstar’s emotion there when he was talking about the house! You rock DC! You are making great progress Cole. Great video
Love the wood work in the house. I could tell Daddy Cornstar was a little emotional as he was talking about the house and your Grandpa. ❤️😊👍🏻
I’m glad to see that you are saving and going to reuse the hardwood.
When you clean up the molding pull the nails out the back. This will prevent the wood from splitting. I did this 25 years ago and am glad I did it .
A good friend of mine renovated his 107 years old home here in Toronto, he added a second staircase from the back of the house , which was the kitchen and it lead up to his new master suit, he put in a metal spiral staircase...not gonna lie..super super cool 😎! I would look into one if you haven’t already gone down that spiral alley in your own thoughts and dreams. By friend did a lot of work himself and he said the spiral stair case a) was really the only option given the tight space he was dealing with, he just didn’t want to use up so much realestate for a traditional staircase and b) cost...he said it was actually cheaper if you have to factor in labour to build a traditional staircase. These come premade and go in within one days work...I can’t evn tell you how excited I a, to follow this process. The farming is why I’m here. I know, I’m a broken record, I grew up on a big farm in NB, Canada ..I miss it, a lot. In fact my husband and I have been looking now for a year to find a hobbby farm, given the state of the world, we figure it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have a few chickens, maybe a goat and a big ole garden, and some solar panels to run the joint part of the year. Anyway, the daily peek into farming truly make my heart happy...you layer on to that some renovations of a BEAUTIFUL, truly magnificent home...and well...I just can’t tell ya happy I am ❤️
As far as layout, I suggest keeping the master bedroom as is framed nicely by the bay window, turn the bathroom into a walk in closet but leaving a hallway to access the ensuite (along where the window/radiator is), then build the ensuite in the second bedroom area. You are going to need to put a second bathroom in to service the other bedrooms in that space as well accessed by the original door to that bedroom. The closet there would be great upstairs laundry area.
They make a plastic sheet door with a zipper in it. Tape it up and unzip and rezip to enter and exit
Sad story I had a house I was working on dated 1912, my family unfortunately decided to take it from me and have it torn down, but it was done the same way. My grandpa used the slats to make things like porch swings out of it. We found original newspaper insulation in the walls. Glad you are able to keep that old house going and give it an update. Just awesome to save history!

Wonderful to watch! Daddy Cornstar once again stole the show. His heart was on display. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings with us. Your father would be proud.
I enjoyed that so much , Cole. That house is incredible.
I am excited to see this happening! Cole, you will be so happy when it's done. You are so smart and creative, I can't wait to see your ideas on reconstruction. Your enthusiasm is so inspiring! I am ready to tear out a wall!
There's nothing like demolition to get rid of your frustration or anger, besides it's a good workout. Nice job .
Cole for such a young man I truly appreciate & love the respect you have for your family home. That you see the craftsmanship of all of that wood work & didn’t just carelessly rip it out says so much. Sure your ripping out a few walls to expand the room & make it work for your needs. You have done an amazing job thus far with the home & I’m sure your Grandparents & Great Grandparents are looking down & smiling at all of the wonderful things you are doing to bring that beautiful home back to life. Great job so far!!! ♥️♥️♥️
I’m sure your grandpa would be proud to see you doing up his house. Means you’re staying put.
Cole, you should put in one of those bookcases that's also a door, so you'll have hidden door access from your bedroom to the attic studio!
Cole, if you put 20 gallon Rubbermaid totes against the wall under where you're removing plaster the plaster just falls right into the tote, it makes clean up so much easier and they don't get too heavy like trash cans do. Also, if you put a fan in the window and seal around it with plastic and tape it creates negative pressure in the room and no dust will get into the rest of the house🤙🤙
good to see u. happy to see you working on the house. dad cornstar with his memories ; always makes me cry. can;t wait to see it all.
It's so wonderful to see the home remain a home, just restored to your personality ❤️👍
I glad you will update the wiring and get rid of the knob and tube wiring.

Yes, but he needs to save the switchplates. He can reuse them with the 21st century wiring. It can be done.
I absolutely, absolutely LOVE the mansion transformation!!! I have been wondering when Cole would be able to get back to it. It is so awesome seeing the clean out/ purge (where Cole started with it), cleaning out the rooms/ office, to attic bird-purge, to basement clean out, to demo!! Fabulous!!!
So, Cole, I've been watching your channel for about a year. Started with your first video on the mansion. Also, I love that you're "upgrading with care" in order to preserve the wood trim. That is a remarkably well-built house. Thank you for sharing your life; keep up the great work! You are an inspiration for me!
This is so exciting. Love watching you working on that beautiful old house. The second stairway to the attic is epic.
This is going to be so epic, Cole. Love the farming videos because it allowed me to meet the whole fam. But it's these videos that got me here and keep me following. You Cornstars are good peoples. ❤
Doing the demo your self saves a ton of money. I like the whole idea of making the two bedrooms and bath in to a master suite. My only hope is that the rest of the house, when you update it, is still this beautiful piece of history. No one has those built-ins, or that wood work and wood floor. It is exciting to see the improvements, and I'm hoping you love the design enough to keep it true. Thank you for taking us along on the re-model.
What a story behind this home, Such a treasure! You have done so much already, love the stairway to the attic idea. That’s going to be great when you’re done!
Super ideas! Thanks for taking us along!!
That is overwhelming! I pray for the blessings of strength and patience for you.
My great granny in Nova Scotia had a 174 year old farm house, man Coles house brings back alot of memories.
I've been watching and waiting for you to get back to the house. I love the old place and can't wait to watch you get it all fixed up - beautiful!!!
Love the time lapse sequences (either on the house or on the farm). Tons of work, young man!
So glad to see the reno back. Missed it. Love me some demo.

Good to see you back working on the house. Sounded like it was a good day for it since it’s so cold out.
Tip, after you start a spot in the plaster, use a flat shovel without side to peel plaster from wall lathe. Clean up bulk of plaster then go back and remove lathe. Makes picking up the mess easier. Can’t wait to see the progress. Love the house.

Fantastic Cole! Impressive demo work- l can see your vision. It will be great to see you make this beautiful old house function for you ♥️
When removing the nails from the trim, don’t pound them back out. You’ll run the risk of chipping out the surface. Instead, use a pair vise grips or similar pliers and pull the nail all the way through from the backside. I’ve already been through what you’re just starting in our 1912 house. Patience is the key.
Glad you are tearing out the walls so that you have access to fix the electric and put in insulation. This is epic!!!
I’ve been waiting for you to get back to working on the house again. That was a LOT of work but you stuck with it. Can’t wait to see the next steps!
Very impressive...your grandparents would be proud!
Just watching the difference between DC reaction and Coles is really interesting. DC is seeing all the memories of the past and Cole is seeing all the potential of the future. It's bitter sweet. I can just imagine a dirty little 8 yo DC taking a bath in that bath room after a long day of running and playing on the farm. This is by no means intended to be a judgement on either DC or Cole. Just two different generations looking at the same thing from different angles. Just hope Cole tries to keep the character of the beautiful old house.

Sounds painful, I guessing it doesn't have the same other meaning in the US as it here (UK)? Just don't do what one of our neighbours and first remove a load bearing wall and then remove all interior walls and beams while waiting for planning permission on the extension leading to the loss of the roof and the four walls. They tried to self manage the build to begin with to cut costs with no experience it left them with a large bill as all the building supplies they had brought from a reclaimed building were useless and got damaged themselves what did survive didn't match the new bricks and tiles when after another couple of years of planning permissions they finally had a new house built. I don't know if you've thought of it, but putting your washer & dryer upstairs close to your bedroom or in your walk in closet or close to bathroom is very convenient. 99% of your laundry is from your bed, bath, & closet.
