    Absolutely love this. I'm all for a full fry up but this is great if you're looking for something different!

    Hugh! Nicely done. I like the concept however I would add a poached egg, the runny yolk would fit right in. Thank You as Always. ChefMike

    Looks great! But I think it needs something green. Maybe a garnish of chives or spring onions? I also think a poached or soft-boiled egg would go great with this.

    I'm a huge fan of Hugh and up until this point, I've been yet to find a recipe I didn't like the look of, BUT, that's not a full English, nor will it ever be. If it's trying to be something different, then call it something different. You truly can not mess with a true full fry. It's just not on.

    Thank you for cooking the beans from scratch. My everlasting respect. Tinned beans are an abomination that should be scraped from the face of this Earth.

    About your blackpudding. Where did you get it from? What is the composition? Here where I live, blackpudding is called 'blood sausage' and it's 40% blood, 30% pork fat and 30% rye. I recently bought some and it tasted to me like rye bread with a slight liver taste. I baked a slice of it and it became somewhat more palatable. Is it normal that blackpudding should taste like this?

    +Paula Bean That is the recipe for black pudding, which is just the English name for a blood sausage. It's best either boiled whole or sliced and fried. Although I think it's best left in the shop.

    I think I'll give this one a miss! I'm allergic to legumes so beans are off the menu, and I've noticed that Hugh puts them in almost everything! Yuck! I'll have the old fashioned English Breakfast without the beans, give me bacon, tomato, sausage, egg... maybe some mushrooms... possibly a bit of liver, toast and a nice hot cup of tea! Now that sounds like a Full Breakfast!

    This looks like it would be fun to make, I like that you made the beans from scratch instead of with that awful ketchup sauce that they usually come in. The beans are my least favorite part of the English breakfast for that reason. I think this would also be good with haggis maybe.

    i would replace the black pudding with merguez or a poached egg. Also I'd replace the bacon with roasted green peppers and slices of avocado or papaya

    Sacrilege Hugh. I'm all in favour of experimenting with recipes but there must be some things that are off limits and the Full English is surely one. A full English without at least one egg is like a lady without the proper rigging. The addition of either beans or (worse still) hash browns should be considered a "Full American". The very best Full English I've come across (other than my own) was at Frank's Cafe in the entrance of Uxbridge Station, about 30 years ago. The genuine Full English served in a giant bap freshly baked on the premises. Dribble.

    +slothape I'm aware of that and as soon as I posted, thought some pedant would point out, but it is not the type of sausage that you would get on a full English breakfast. Pork sausage* in the form of links

    SuperGreenough But the sausage component is surely taken care of by the black pudding?

  • @SuperGreenough

    @SuperGreenough

    No, if you ordered a breakfast with "sausage" in England and someone served you a slice of black pudding then you'd likely have it thrown at you. It's just one of those things, in England if you order a sausage you will get a pork sausage in a skin, if it is different it will be specified, if it doesn't say, that is what it should be.
