Remembering Starhopper - 150 m Hop 6 Month Anniversary

Ғылым және технология

6 months ago today, Starhopper successfully completed a 150 meter hop, marking a significant step toward making Humans a multi-planetary species and the second flight of a Full Flow Staged Combustion rocket engine (the first being Starhopper’s 20 meter hop). Relive the glory days with this video, including never before posted footage of the Abort Flamethrower, both 20 and 150 meter hops + more.

Yep, that's the sound of the gas thrusters firing. It's the puff of smoke you see at the top just before the sound reaches the camera. It sounds a bit like a gunshot to me, which makes sense since it's a puff of high velocity gasses exiting the thruster nozzle (and turning off quickly since it's just a test here, which makes it also end sharply like a gunshot).

It got moved to the pad and will (hopefully) have a static fire in the next weeks. But at the moment there is also no engine attached to that :) Hope the right answer is in my Comment :D

@@Vatsyayana87 yea, there was a static fire test, just a couple of secs long and I thought its already from the SN1, but it was Starhoppers static fire test. Thanks for clarifying the details. Came home waaaay too exhausted to be really attentive. Ill check the timer and will let you know when it is. Brb.
