Remembering Sean Lock: Bill Bailey's 100-mile Walk In Late Comedians Memory | This Morning

Ойын-сауық

As next month marks a year since the tragic loss of comedian Sean Lock, Bill Bailey will be paying tribute to his late friend with a 100-mile walk along a section of the South West Coast Path, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. As well as sharing some fond memories of his friend and how he’s preparing for the fundraiser, Comedian and Musician Bill also joins us to talk about his upcoming shows at London’s Royal Opera House, as part of his ‘En Route to Normal’ international tour.

Macmillan are an information giving service and a lot of money is eaten up by marketing. People tend to think that the people caring for your loved one in hospital is provided by Macmillan but it is actually in name only. They might partially fund a post for say a year in exchange for having the staff member use the name "Macmillan Nurse" indefinitely but actually hospital pays them but the name is retained. Its a good way of keeping people thinking they do more than they actually do. Same goes with the Macmillan information centre presence in the hospitals. Macmillan only fund partially for a small amount of time then the hospital is lumbered with finding the funds to keep it going Each hospital has its own charity (smaller scale) which uses any funds to get more needed posts that Macmillan refuse to help with, or for things needed in the day unit like chemo chairs, equipment, wig service. So rather have your money swallowed by the UK's biggest charity on their bleak adverts, information booklets, why not support the hospital that helped the patient? Just my two pence. I work in the cancer field clinically but have also worked for Macmillan head office.

I've done work (both Volunteer and Paid) for MacMillan and this rings true 100% - I've always seen them as a Cancer Awareness charity, more than Cancer Relief.
