I got to know Mikey at Penn State...just an upstanding guy BUT also let loose when it fit. He had his priorities with school and NROTC right but also wasn't a shut in .. loved football (We talked about our HS football and our hockey days some as we were both passionate as hell) and Penn State football games too (awesome memorial to him specifically with his fallen members of the military since Iraq-War on Terror)..was SMART AS HELL, and I'm not exaggerating...he could read a room in a second and fit in in any environment but did have some funny ass quirks as you guys put it. Overall you guys explained Mikey as just as I remember, so it's great to hear from enlisted SEALs that he turned out to be a great and respectable Officer, not that I expected to hear less. He reminded me SO MUCH as my brother who served in the Army...my brother was a one of those who'd tape up old shoes, drive whatever, kind as hell, laid back but also driven. Once I heard Mikey died, it felt like my brother died...I look up to both of them so much. He was like a copy of my brother, just SMARTER haha. These brave SEALs here don't take bullshit kindly, wild bunch but EFFECTIVE, and they aren't just giving Mikey "lip-service" to make him look good. From learning, talking with military family members, and also from my "addiction " to military vids/podcasts on KZread, not many officers can pull off that fine line to both fit in with their enlisted but also be a great leader at the same time. That is RESPECT. God bless you all for your sacrifices and those who have fallen. Mikey's legacy will live on. And God bless Mikey's parents as they did a great job raising them, and from meeting them once before as well as vids on KZread, they raised a WARRIOR, a DEFENDER against HS bullies to enemies overseaas. Truly rest now Mikey, and God bless the United States of America 🇺🇸!

I never served in the military, however I feel it is an obligation as an American to honor those who did served and currently serve at all levels. I started doing the Murph workout on 12/12/20, and have done it once every week since. Every time I hit the wall on the last few sets I think about the brave men and women who fought for us. I’d also add that our society needs to take stock of the thousands upon thousands of wounded who are forever scarred by war. All one needs to do to see the price of freedom is to visit the local V.A. and then take a little road trip to Arlington National Cemetery, any one of the 14 U.S. cemeteries in foreign countries, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. At each of these places you will see only part of the price of freedom. The price that you can’t see is the mental and emotional scars that our veterans walk around with all the time. And the grief and mourning of the family members of all of those in those locations, or still deployed. If you think our military members are tough, and yes they are, you should meet their families. Every time they hear something on the news they worry about their loved ones. It is especially bad when they’re operating outside the wire for some time and there is no way to contact them. May God bless and protect all those who have served, are serving, or ever will serve.

I have said this before and I'll say it again here: I am so glad that Marcus survived that day. Not just because he is a good man, or because he should have lived, but because if he didn't... if he'd gone down with the others, we wouldn't know what happened. I think that the story of Mike Murphy, would have still been told but if not for Marcus Luttrell, we would never know who Danny and Axe were. I remember seeing a clip about the movie. One of the SEALs on the production staff said to Emile Hirsch, "You need to do this right because from now on, every time someone googles 'Danny Dietz,' your name is going to pop up so you can't let him down." Thank God Marcus survived because thanks to him, a hundred years from now, people will still talk about the legend of Mike Murphy, and what those men did.

I agree. But at the same when Marcus said he had no ammo left. Then the man who saved him says Marcus had all 11 mags of ammo still when found. So I respect Marcus still because he's a real seal and served for our country. But Murph Danny and all the items that died that day. Do deserve respect and deserve the real story told. If its true that Marcus had all hos 11 mags and ammo?? Then he needs to just tell the true.

I saw Marcus at slippery rock university. He told his story and let me tell you, the internet does not this man and his story justice. Something about listening and watching him live and up close tell his story is powerful. He’s a good man and an even better American. We honestly do not do no where near enough for our combat veterans and it’s sad. I encourage anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to go and listen to him tell his story, GO! You won’t regret it and that’s a fact. Never once does he try to make you sad and feel bad for him and dedicates it all to his brothers who died fighting that die. I also get the sense from him that he truly doesn’t even understand why he survived and nobody else did and he looks at it almost as a burden. You can tell he had so much love and appreciation for his brothers. He didn’t cry but came close to it. Mad respect for this man and I’m glad to say I saw him in person and shook his hand.

Thank you all for your service and God bless you. I was greatly motivated by Marcus' book to do the Murph. I was able to do my first Murph this past Monday. I did have to portion it out to 2 pull-ups, 4 push-ups, and 6 squats. I did that 50 times. I did the mile on my elliptical. I was able to wear the weighted vest for the run, push-ups, and squats., but I needed to use a giant rubber band to help me with my pull-ups. I served 14 years in the Army as an MP in the 80's and 90's. I am 55 years old now and have been serving as a missionary in Costa Rica for the past 15 years. I had started training for this 7 months ago. Hopefully next year I will be able to do the full weighted vest Murph workout without assistance. Again thank you for your service and God bless you all.
