When I was a soldier at Ft. Hood,TX, I'd go see 'em at a club called Woodstock. I was always up against the stage when they played, and they remembered that. One night after a show, I was walking back to my barracks and somebody yells, 'Where you goin'?' It was Darrell and another band member with a couple of roadies in a big Suburban. They picked me up and drove me all the way to my building. That was back in '84 when they were promoting 'Projects in the Jungle' on an LP record. I still have his neon pink pick. It reads: The King Diamond Darrell. Yes, that was before he became Dime bag. I'll never forget him. Damn shame.

Mart9511 Killswitch got into Pantera a couple of years ago and I've not stopped, the power Dime had to put his heart and soul into his music is incredible, you can literally feel his life flowing through every note on every song. I've watched countless hours of videos of Dime live and just of his crazy videos and even though I'm one of the unfortunate ones who will never get to meet the man himself or see pantera/Damageplan, I feel like I've known him on a personal level just from the story's and his music!! I was only 4 when he passed away and I discovered Pantera when I was 15 (in 2015) and he instantly became my favorite metal guitarist. Sometimes, it pains me that a lot of my favorite musicians like Dimebag Darrell, Chuck Schuldiner, Jeff Hanneman, Cliff Burton, Ronnie James Dio etc; were already dead before I discovered their music.

My 1st concert was meshuggah, sick of it all, and slayer. My 3rd and 4th concert was Pantera and ozzy, and I was in 10th grade as well. It was so good that I went to it twice. Dimebag and Vinnie and Bobby Tongs came out in the crowd before Pantera played. They were about 5 feet away from me standing at the sound board. Dime and Vinnie were between Bobby and myself and bobby was filming the whole thing. I was like a child on Christmas morning. So grateful that I seen them 2 times. Also I almost went to the DAMAGEPLAN show at the AL Rosa on December 8th 2004 the day that Dimebag was taken from us. I live about a hour away from the al rosa. I'm glad that I didn't go because I possibly wouldn't be here talking about it now, you never know... I do know that Dimebag is, was, and will always be loved and in my heart. Music hasn't been the same since that day. R.I.P Dimebag - R.I.P Vinnie CFH 4 ever

Dimebag :) One of the rare people, that you could really love, even though you never met them. As a guitarist, I think he stood alone. As a musician and as a person, he was internationally adored by millions. Virtuoso. Professional. Big kid. Clown. Caring, genuine, super-friendly, funny (slightly alcoholic!) guy. One of "us". Perhaps the best of "us". Yes: I loved him. Sincerely. Look at one of the Vulgar Videos, where the kid in south America is freaking out to meet Pantera (in the car park), look at Dime's face, how he's not clowning or laughing at the kid. Look how he searched for anything to give that kid, to keep. Dime was really touched by the fan. He knew how it felt to love a band, to be a "fan". Dimebag was the fucking shit. The best guitar player on the earth, and he never once got a big head about it. It makes no sense to me, why the best people get killed, and all the shit bags keep on living. Truly truly truly truly fuck the world for all it's worth every inch of planet earth

all i can say is he was very much a singular breed and to those who dont understand or get it you are not meant to
These still make me cry.
I’m currently 17 and my dad would turn on Pantera to pump me up on the way to peewee football games. It wasn’t until about 2016 that I tried to find those songs because I remembered the band name, but not the songs, so I sat on KZread for about an hour trying to find the songs that I remembered. I got about 6 songs on my phone and later got really big into tool because of Guitar Hero: World Tour. I got every tool album and listened to it until it made me sick. Then I said “hey, this Pantera band fuckin rocks, let’s listen to some more” then I was introduced to Cemetery Gates and many great others. One day I walked into the living room and told my dad that their guitarist is frikn awesome and he told me all about him. About how much of a legend he is and why he is the best ever. About a month I completed my Pantera album collection. Everything from cowboys from hell and after that is. Big fan, didn’t get to live it, wasn’t old enough to know of dime at the time of his death. But I still am sad he’s dead. No one has been able to capture that sound since.

RIP to the legend that got me started playing His Dimebucker pickups were sick too
God bless Bobby for all the work he and Dime did to record as much as they could! Love to hear stories. He ripped walk and gave me th pick in my thumbnail and Rex gave me the pick he played whole show with. Such a nice guy with the most genuine smile, made me feel like I was his friend for years in the 5 minutes we talked!
RIP Dime!! #BlackTooooooooooth!! 🔥🤘🏻😈🤘🏻🔥

Haha, it was the Gunn Junior High band. Didn't really know him well. My very fuzzy memory is that he had long hair, was laid back, and played in the percussion section.

Smylee Guy they've got a decent drummer. I don't like their music, and can't stand Andy, but I won't disregard someone's talent because of that...

I saw Pantera open for Skid Row when I was 14-15. I will be 41 in a month and this dude thats prob a lot younger than me gonna claim he saw them before anyone knew them when they were an opening act? How young of a "Kid" was he when he saw them, 2 or 3? Im calling major bullshit!
